Difficult question

One has tighter editing, very efficient storytelling every shot builds the story perfectly.

Part Two is an epic and has more beautiful cinematography. The scenes of young vito escaping to new york as a child then becoming a man, getting drawn into crime in little italy is some of the best filmmaking ever. Also love the whole Cuba angle, with Fidel Castro's Revolution getting in the way of their business. However, the editing in part two is less tight, a lot could have been left out. The end of Godfather Part 2 is almost too dark, it gets depressing watching Michael grow cold hearted and ending the movie either killing or growing apart from everyone.

Michael gave zero fukks when that happened. He turned into the devil.

Santino's silly mistake talking during the meeting with Sollozzo 'The Turk' changed the whole trajectory of The Corleone Family. Giving away what Vito is thinking, which exposes the families vulnerability.

Honestly... it's nitpicking to choose between them in my eyes. They are quite different so it might depend on preference. I think the first one flows a little better into one singular story but the second one if a more epic overview of how it all came to be and why families fall apart.
