this is group work tho, and i think money power respect and we are the streets are as good as the hots boys albums
Hell no they're trash. And your excuse about it being about groups only, is some fukk nikka cop out nonsense. HB'S dwarf them nikkas in great music

lol.

just realized these were the 2 hottest groups on the street when i was hitting puberty.

word to the ruff ryder/cash money tour.

back home bruh everything was around the building up around wayne everything was to make him the star of the group, really was the beginning of the end of the hot boys
but weezie lyrics back then was on point you can tell the influence around him

youre proving my point.

they were desperately trying to make him the star & failed.

edit: and lets not forget how they threw turk album out there with shabby promotion, yet he was outselling that over-promoted wayne album at the time. then they hurried up and tossed turk album in the bushes.

So, I'm listening to the new Jalen and Jacoby podcast and they're putting together a greatest hip hop groups of all-time bracket. The shyt that caught me was The Hot Boys being an after thought and not even making the tournament but The Lox not only making the tournament but being cysed by Jalen like they could actually win it.

I'm a fan of both groups. When I was a kid, Sheek was actually my favorite rapper for a second... but Im from the south, so the Hot Boys were my absolute shyt. For perspective sake: Lox had 2 albums, HB's 3..HB's got 3 platinum solo acts, Lox not a one.. Is the Lox's impact that much greater than the Hot Boys? Let me know something..

for you young bucks.. Lox= Jadakiss, Styles P. and Sheek..HB's= Lil Wayne, Juvenile,BG, and Turk

Jadakiss went platinum

they start talking about @ 32:30
edit: Jalen be rambling like fukk but basically they revealed the seeding in this episode. No.1 seeds are Wu-Tang, Public Enemy, NWA, and RUN-DMC

I was just trippin like "how they get the Lox in there and just tossed the Hot Boys". But I'm biased as shyt so at the same time I was like :manny:. Still tho, I grew up in that era. I liked the Lox. But when you got a group with 3 platinum nikkas in it.. (and Wayne was 2xplat even back then)....you can't just throw away the group like they wasn't shyt and cyse The Lox of all groups. Them nikkas made Guerilla Warfare :to:Was nikkas really on MPR and We are the streets like that? As I recall, nope! But again, Im in the south so that bias....still east coast bias is a mofo hence this video. At least UGK, Geto Boys, 8Ball and MJG got in there.

props on the link. im the originator of this concept, btw.

hold up. why are you singling out the lox? i thought they were comparing them to the hot boys. youre just picking on the lox. why? theyre WAY BETTER than some of those groups on there.

wayne didnt go double-plat back then. juvenile did tho, and juvi went 5x plat too. why not mention him instead?

dog, "we are the streets" was HUGE in the hood. it was even bigger than DMX album at the time(which was DMX' highest-selling album). eat your heart out @bigbadbossup2012

The whole reason I started the thread was because Jalen cysed The Lox like they were going to be in the final four for best group of all-time. ALL-TIME?!!:what:... As I said, I like The Lox. Sheek was my guy growing up. But them nikkas wasn't popping like that. Not like what CMB did back then. Facts are: Juve was 5x plat. solo act, Wayne did go double platinum with Block is Hot and I mentioned that for the people that seem to think Wayne didn't sell until Carter 2.....B.G. was a platinum artist. Guerrilla Warfare was a platinum album. So my whole point was, why in the shyt were the Hot Boys not even on the bracket but the Lox are cysed to make the final four? No shytting on Lox, just wanted to get another take because being from the south, I saw first hand the Hot Boys impact as compared to the Lox. I'm admittedly biased to the south but everything is biased towards east coast shyt anyway so :manny:

I do get that the Hot Boys broke up quick so its easy for people to forget and Lox never did, but still the Lox only had 2 albums as a group and they weren't that big as a group. It was Jalen's hype like they really a top 5 all time group that made me call them out in comparison to the Hot Boys. That's it.

And aint no damn way any Lox project was bigger than a DMX project in 99-00? You cant be serious.

:what: what east coast bias? im pretty sure this list was randomly thrown together on the humbug by mostly white cats from wherever that work on the show. i agree that the hot boys got a raw deal, but this whole "blame east coast bias" rhetoric needs to stop. the east coast has nothing to do with the stuff yall complain about half the time.

the lox was indeed poppin like that dog. theres a reason why jadakiss was expected to be the next :king: after WATS. it wasnt a numbers/commercial thing. it was more of a street thing. and yes, WATS was indeed bigger on the streets than "and then there was X" in the ruff ryders' biggest markets. hell, it was bigger in those markets than everything that dropped for dam near a 2 year period. theyre the most influential group to come out in the past 18-19 years.

and like i said, my vote goes to the hot boys. but i cant be mad if somebody picks the lox over them. and im talking about the groups here. not the solo stuff.

okay, i see why you called out the lox now. but i dont think jalen was saying that theyre a top 5 group(btw, jalen is not an east coast guy). i think he was saying that theyre a dark-horse to make the final four. and depending on the matchups, i can see that happening. since theyre still current, i can see them getting voted over older groups that get brushed aside like say a run dmc. i can see them un-deservingly knocking run dmc out of the 2nd round, and then running thru one of those over-ranked 2 seeds in the following round.

that wayne debut only went 1x plat back in the day. it may have went double plat in recent years thanks to his later success, but it was stuck at 1 millie back then.

I was never in to the hot boys like that I thought they were lyrically trash
What stopped the members of the lox from reaching the heights that juvey or wayne reached?
