Like I said, they don't make it out of the west in '02 without Kobe. Shaq was still the alpha in the gameplan.

Let's look at this another way. MVP voting:

2000 - Shaq wins MVP, Kobe is 12th in voting
2001 - Shaq is 3rd in voting, Kobe is 9th
2002 - Shaq is 3rd in voting, Kobe is 5th

So you can see that Kobe was creeping up on Shaq and about to surpass him when the 3peat ended. Incidentally, in '03 Kobe finished 3rd in MVP voting and Shaq was 5th, but they lost to the Spurs in the playoffs. In '04, Kobe was 5th and Shaq was 6th in MVP voting and they lost to the Pistons in the Finals.

So when Shaq was the alpha dog, they won championships. Once Kobe surpassed him, he couldn't lead a team with Shaq on it to a title. :shaq:

You're so dumb. Think about what you saying. So Kobe could lead Gasol and Bynum to 2 rings and 3 championships. Mind you, Bynum averaged 8 points one year :heh: But he couldn't do it with one of the most dominant big men of all time. Had Kobe and Shaq stayed together they would've won 6-7 rings. The thing was Shaq turned sour grapes when Kobe became better than him. Shaq knows this and admitted he fukked up :yeshrug:

KOBE VS SPURS 2001:
33.3 PPG 7 RPG 7 APG

KOBE VS KINGS 2001:
35 PPG 9 RPG 4.3 APG

KOBE VS BLAZERS 2001:
25 PPG 4.7 RPG 7.7 APG

SIDEKICK NUMBERS YALL!!!

Imagine if Jordan got to have a sidekick who could average 35 ppg in the playoffs. Bulls wouldve won 8 straight :wow:

Implying that Shaq was better than him for all of the 3peat. Which is where the argument for Kobe being the "sidekick" comes from. Kobe being the second best player on those teams behind one of the most dominant big men of all time in his prime isn't a knock against Kobe.

Kobe had the better match up against the Spurs those two seasons. Of course Shaq was gonna take a backseat being guarded by Robinson AND Duncan

Don't know about of course, the way people talk about the Kobe/Shaq dynamic you'd think there was no such thing as a disadvantageous matchup for Shaq and that Kobe was never needed as the primary option. In reality they were nothing short of a tag team that together dismantled teams and completed a dynasty

True indeed bruh. I think the sad part about this thread is how nobody is APPRECIATING how great and dominant they were together. Let's be real, it's going to be a LONG time before we see a SG & C with their talents win like they were suppose to dominant like they did you and NOTHING anybody could do about it.

I guarantee you never played basketball besides in gym class

swing and a miss, kiddo. try again. less emotional this time.

i dunno why it hurts you stans so badly. yes, kobe wasn't the typical 'sidekick', he was GREAT, in fact i'd say he was one of the best players in the league during his time with shaq...but he was with shaq. ANYBODY in the league would've been the 2nd option/sidekick/whatever to him at that point. everybody who watched them back then knew shaq was 'the man', the numbers support that shaq was 'the man', the trophies support that shaq was 'the man', so stop whining about it.

kobe was easily a 1st option, alpha dog caliber player...but that's not how it played out for him at that point, not on that particular laker team, playing beside that particular ultra-dominant player.

sorry y'all.
