Last year, the country saw a record number of victims from political-criminal violence, with Data Cívica, a human rights organization, reporting 661 attacks on people and facilities. Many of the victims either held or were running for municipal-level positions.

In May 2024, a mayoral candidate was killed during a campaign stop in the southern state of Guerrero, in a shooting that was captured on video.

Days later, the mayor of Cotija in Michoacán state was shot dead as she was walking from a gym back to her house with her bodyguard.

In October, the mayor of Guerrero’s capital Chilpancingo was killed less than a week after taking office.

│ │ People who complain about taxes often fail to grasp what society actually is.
│ │
│ │ If you want to go to work, earn money, and accumulate what you earn, you need society. That's what we are paying for.
│ │
│ │ The justice system is absolutely central to that. If the justice system collapses or is in a collapsing state, justice is just administered by others.
│ │
│ │ If society did collapse, all that would happen is that you would start off with huge amounts of vigilantism, then people would group together to defend their communities against vigilantism, and that would need people to contribute, then you are basically back to a primitive form of society.
│ │
│ │ IMO, taxes are never ours in the first place. Government is not spending out tax dollars. It's a subscription that we pay to be able to earn in the first place and not have to be constantly worried that someone is going to kill us to take what we have earned, but we only have to pay it while we are earning.
│ │
│ │ Living in the comfort of society, it’s easy to underestimate how brutal a world with a collapsing justice system is.

I have a relative that’s on drugs and their brain is literally rotting. Almost lost their life and they are saying life currently is the best they ever lived. SMH. That’s all I can do and take out life insurance. This may sound cruel, and I promise it’s not- but death seem like a better outcome than the other likely ones because I don’t see this person changing for the better. They don’t listen at all and they are violently aggressive to damn near everyone. They only seem to treasure the opinion of a motherfukker that means them no good. At all. A snake.
