Damn, sounds like you were on point. All we have is a birthing tub, a midwife, a "doula"(who for all I can tell is just some afrohoe but whatever) and our mommas. I'm afraid.
Seriously.
I currently have a nurse to visit and chat with me on his progress and milestones and what I need to know, we started chatting during my pregnancy. I had a doula who was somewhat useful for info but she wasn’t in the delivery room, for example I didn’t know about postpartum (endless) bleeding up to about 6 weeks.
I also was 35 (and have “good insurance”), so being advanced age I had a lot of ultrasounds and a maternal fetal medicine doc/appts on top of my OB. Only thing that kinda happened was he went into my cervix early and they thought he might come at 33 weeks as I was dilated-he didn’t but they gave me a steroid shot and kept me in l&d for 8 hours to make sure his lungs would be good and that I wasn’t dilating further.
I’m big on the hospital setting just because you never know what might happen, at least the equipment and full staff are there. I understand it’s magical, unique special and whatnot especially your first child but for example my sis and her wife planned a home pool birth-she developed preclampsia and went into emergency labor after she stopped breathing, like actually almost died. The expected delivery hospital was far from where they lived and luckily I had moved to Texas to be closer/know my nephew and my travel schedule at the time allowed for them to live in my place to be closer to him in Nicu.
I had bad morning sickness, lost 40 lbs during and couldn’t keep much down. Tired af in my first and third trimesters, was peeing on myself as he STAYED on my bladder, waddling like George Jefferson and the little one was strong kicking and punching me inside-9:30-10:30 PM every night was his party time
oh and no one bothered to tell me about the heartburn
Would I do it over? Sure, would I do it again (as in another baby)? Probably not. He’s very healthy, happy and loved, so I’m glad.
ill be honest with you on this. I know this guy has to be shook right now. Cant even imagine. Hes basically begging to have another second of life from the government and they told him no.
