Seniors on fixed income have a (relatively) convenient mode of transportation in that city. MTA should have thought about the most vulnerable subway riders and working out a transition exemption for them.

I got that one, the Pop Smoke & Ice Spice ones
there used to be a technique with the metro card where if you folded it a certain way you could get in for free. It worked for a while then they removed that hack. I remember the green student metro card, use it 3 times a day, used to take the train everywhere after school.
