Not for nothing but I forgot Maryland has a Black Atty. Gen

Anthony Brown

So they have a Black Governor, Black Senator and a Black Atty Gen.

Guy at the top is a tether and did vote down a reparations study but there’s other butta biscuits so pick your poison

The other Black “utopia”. Got a Black Senator and that’s it.
Yea, Wes Moore is Jamaican and anti-reparations. (It wouldn't benefit him.)

A lot of non FBA's are strategically placed in office (i.e., Eric Adams - also Jamaican) and are against reparations.

But also, I don't think we'll realistically ever get reparations in this country.

There's too many deterrents in place.

Realistically for FBA's, dual citizenship, scholarships, grants based on lineage, interest free loans for housing based on certain factors (income, clean record, background) would help us without cacs and coọns bıtching but also put our communities back on top.

Mind you, Kamala is also Jamaican and Indian. I only voted for her because we can't have Trump in office. But she was never for our cause. We were fụcked either way but now at least everyone is fụcked.

“At a time when the White House and Congress are actively targeting Black communities, dismantling diversity initiatives, and using harmful coded language, Governor Moore had a chance to show the country and the world that here in Maryland we boldly and courageously recognize our painful history and the urgent need to address it," the caucus said in the statement. “Instead, the State’s first Black governor chose to block this historic legislation that would have moved the state toward directly repairing the harm of enslavement.”

Yeah, Wes got to go.. and if Alsobrooks is smart, she’ll start distancing/differentiating herself from him now
He co signed her. Again you got The wire references but the Baltimore/ PG County alliance/ Rivalry has been going on since forever but it kicked into high gear with Glendening ( the last white guy from P.G.) won the big chair in Annapolis.

At least one side is willing to engage and discuss. The other is tryna sue to make it a non starter and won't even consider it a possibility.

Engage in what? His office has some policies on poverty but it's POC bs and not targeted at the generational multi-level poverty that FBA people face.

This a weird one..what’s the point of a study by the state of Maryland ? True reparations will need to come from the federal governments ..so yeah it is kind of pointless because Maryland itself can’t do anything ..So I get it .

It’s just a bad headline

Problem is that if he approved the study a lot of the same ppl giving him hell would be clowning another reparations study that won’t go anywhere.

We don’t need a study to know what should happen
This happened. There’s been municipalities that even tried to implement what they could but crickets.

I mean everyone knows shyt comes from the bottom up not the top down and the guy at the top now ain’t doing shyt so I kinda don’t see the point for the crash out.

After reading this... I understand his vote. Between the various studies and organizations and other state governments that have already done this work and research, the information is there. Focus needs to be on the execution of a plan. If he voted down a tangible plan that was presented on how Maryland would go about reparations for black people, I would get the outrage more.

With AI in place and with the wealth of information/studies on this already, spending more money for more research is more than likely not necessary at all.

Aint you Nigerian? Wes Moore will just spout child tax credit babble instead of addressing the real multi- generational poverty that FBA/ADOS people face. It's a back door for immigrants to benefit.

I would be okay with it if he recommended something like baby bonds that would scale up if a kid was born into multigenerational poverty. The bond scales up 25% for each generation of poverty that the kids family has been in. Something like that would be transformative. You don't even have to call it reparations. Wes Moore is just babbling about nothing.

this how a baby bond program could look according to deepseek

A "baby bonds" program that scales up based on generational poverty is an innovative way to address wealth inequality by providing larger endowments to children whose families have experienced prolonged economic hardship. Here’s how a state could design and implement such a program:

Key Design Features

  1. Base Amount for All Eligible Children
    • Every child born into a low-income household (e.g., below 200-300% of the federal poverty line) receives a seed deposit (e.g., 1,000−1,000−5,000).
  2. Scaling Based on Generational Poverty
    • The state tracks how many prior generations of the child’s family have been in poverty (using tax records, SNAP/TANF participation, Medicaid enrollment, etc.).
    • Example scaling:
      • 1st generation in poverty: +$1,000
      • 2nd consecutive generation: +$2,000
      • 3rd+ consecutive generation: +$3,000
    • This creates a "poverty multiplier" to account for cumulative disadvantage.
  3. Annual or Periodic Additional Deposits
    • The state could add funds annually based on continued eligibility (e.g., $500/year if family remains below income threshold).
    • Alternatively, a lump sum at birth could be used for simplicity.
  4. Account Structure & Restrictions
    • Funds grow in a state-managed trust (like a 529 plan) until adulthood (18-25).
    • Withdrawals allowed only for wealth-building uses (education, home purchase, small business, retirement savings).
  5. Funding Mechanism
    • State general revenue, dedicated tax (e.g., surcharge on high-income earners or luxury real estate), or reallocated existing welfare funds.

Implementation Steps for a State

  1. Legislation & Eligibility Criteria
    • Pass a bill defining:
      • Income thresholds (e.g., Medicaid-eligible or below 250% FPL).
      • How "generational poverty" is measured (e.g., parent/grandparent tax filings or welfare program participation).
  2. Data Infrastructure
    • Link birth records, IRS data, and social program enrollment (SNAP, TANF) to verify generational poverty.
    • Partner with financial institutions to manage accounts.
  3. Pilot Program
    • Start with a smaller cohort (e.g., one city or children born in a specific year) to test tracking and payout systems.
  4. Public Awareness
    • Educate families on the program (via hospitals, schools, social services) to ensure uptake.

Example Scenario

  • Child A: Born to a single parent who was also in poverty (2nd generation).
    • Base: $1,000
    • 2nd-gen bonus: +$2,000
    • Total at birth: $3,000 (+ potential annual additions).
  • Child B: Born to a family newly in poverty (1st generation).
    • Base: $1,000
    • 1st-gen bonus: +$1,000
    • Total at birth: $2,000.

Challenges & Considerations

  • Data Privacy: Tracking family history requires careful safeguards.
  • Cost: Larger payouts for deep poverty could strain budgets (may need phased rollout).
  • Political Will: Requires bipartisan support or progressive revenue sources.

Existing Models

  • Connecticut’s Baby Bonds: $3,200 for children on Medicaid, but no generational scaling.
  • Federal Proposals (e.g., Booker/Sanders): Up to $50,000 for poorest children, but not generationally adjusted.
A generational poverty-adjusted baby bonds program would be groundbreaking in targeting intergenerational wealth gaps directly. States like California or New York, with strong social welfare infrastructures, could pioneer this approach.

Would you like help drafting model legislation or estimating costs for a specific state?

Yeah if he was serious he would have had next steps and offered a link to a study he'd reference and push for so we know what people are getting.

He'd have this kind of information on hand saved on his smart phone for quick reference. Maybe he had all that in the article, but from the look of what's been posted here, it's very much politician babble and embarrassing as hell if you think that answer in a vacuum was a good one.
yeah no doubt he finessed the answer.

That being said I’m surprised he even did that.

This is feasible and Big Business and academia could so some of this without the government ( if the Government didn’t sue)
