what would you rather them do?
it was just two years ago tht low key the sixers had a core with turner, young, holliday, hawes and they traded for bynum, that bynum trade cost them a young center in vuceciv(sp) and set their team back, if bynum was healthy and not damaged goods the sixers would have bynum, hawes, young, turner, holliday prob winning like 45-50 games a year in the east.
Instead they had to reset , got a steal in trading jrue, drafted a injured big man who wont play this year, got a steal in mcw.
Next year the sixers could have a core of noel, mcw and two top ten picks in one of the deepest drafts in years plus 5 second rounders and cap space.
if ur gonna tank, the sixers just showed everyone in the NBA the blueprint for the quickest potential sucess.
i mean lets be real the 76ers been out of the first round once in the past 10 years
Yeah..... If you say so. Lakers ain't shyt. They'll been irrelevant at least till your daddy Kobe retires.Who brought up boston? I'm talking about the GOAT franchise Boss Angeles Lakers, besides Rondo's return put an end to the ainge tank.
I say there should be a HEFTY fine for a team that is in the lottery 4 years in a row.
We have a luxury tax. Implement a Lottery tax.
Lottery tax = you will pay dollar for dollar the salary slot of the lottery slot you get.
Example: if you have the 2nd worst record in the league you get the second most balls in the lottery, right? SO, you would pay the amount on the 2nd pick of the draft's rookie salary scale in taxes WETHER you ended up with the second pick or not.
On top of that
If you finished in the bottom 5 record wise 4 years in a row, the highest pick you can get in the lottery is the 8th pick . You will still have to pay the scale fine from the 1st penalty i described above
YOu must do what it takes, period. Wheel and deal. Don't just sit there and hope a generational player will fall on your lap.Nah sometimes you just don't have the right mix of talent...An example of this is the Nuggets, twolves, magic, jazz.
YOu must do what it takes, period. Wheel and deal. Don't just sit there and hope a generational player will fall on your lap.
Look at Pat Riley in Miami. Forget that we got lucky with Wade turning into a star. But focus on all the wheeling and dealing he did to keep the team respectable and never be bad for more than 2 years going on 20 years now. He had GUTTED that roster 4 times and quickly rebuilt every time.
Honestly I don't see much wheeling and dealing Riley did...I recall him getting 2 generational free agents....And the Shaq trade after he announced he wanted to be dealt...The Heat like many other teams lucked out with a generational talent found in the draft with a top 5 pick I might add (probably should of been top 4 but the Pistons were Enamored with Darko)
It goes on and on. And this is just listing the impactful moves. A GM should not just sit on his hands and hope the right player falls on his lap. You cant just be a great evaluator of talent in the draft. YOU HAVE to make sh!t happen.
- Traded Glen Rice (lottery pick, allstar) for Alonzo Mourning
- Same year, traded Seikaly (lottery pick, potential allstar) for Tim Hardaway and Billy Owens
- Next year, Signed PJ Brown
- Same year, signed Juwan Howard (in his prime) and then the NBA voided the contract saying we cheated.
- Traded for Dan Majerley
- Next year, traded for Jamal Mashburn
- 3 years later Trade Mashburn (allStar) and PJ Brown for Eddie Jones (allStar)
- Same year, signed Brian Grant (in his prime) to replace PJ Brown
- Zo gets sick we end up in the lottery
- Draft Caron Butler and Rasual Butler
- Next Year, drafts Dwyane Wade and Haslem
- Same year, signs Lamar Odom
- Next year trades Odom, Grant and Butler for Shaq
- Next year , tears down the Next year trades for Antoine Walker, Jason Williams among others
- Trades Shaq 2years later for Shawn Marion
- Same year trades for Jermaine O'Neal
- Drafts Michael Beasley
- 2 years later guts the roster and signs Bosh, Wade and Lebron
When we lost Mourning we went after Elton Brand and Lamar Odom and Eddie Jones and other AllStars and established players. Granted we got lucky with Wade but we HAD to go after Shaq. We had to go after LeBron and Bosh.
Rich people dodnt get rich being lucky, doggy. Sometimes you have to MAKE your luck happen. Huyzenga (former Dolphins owner) started out poor and made his money eventually but his first step was buying a garbage truck and wheeling and dealing from there.
