Yesterday was a win for the NBA. Meanwhile the NFL games were trash.

It's the ratings that matter not how good the games were. Netflix made a killing.

If the games were on CBS, Fox, or NBC the NBA would've gotten slaughtered.

Thanksgiving belongs to the nfl
And Christmas Day belongs to the nba

Both leagues should Stay in their lanes.

NFL games on Christmas Day feel artificial, incongruous and forced anyway. This is an unnecessary Petty cash grab and flex power move by the nfl

In 5 years the NBA on Christmas will be an afterthought with the general public if the NFL keeps playing on that date. A couple people at my house said “I forgot the NBA was playing today” when I turned it over there after the NFL games were done.

Football is just a better social gathering sport than basketball. It’s going to win out in the long term.

Enjoying a product doesn’t a equate to belonging in a cult.

NFL more often than not delivers an enjoyable and entertaining product that appeals to the masses. They also openly respect their fans.

The NBA discourse hasn’t just been a month long discussion. The NBA has openly disrespected fans for years. Once you lose a customer (or millions in the NBA’s case), it takes time to regain the trust back, if they even give the product a second look.

The NBA’s problems didnt start overnight and won’t be solved because the Christmas Day games were actually good for once.
People have constantly complained The NFL has a weak product compared to decades past yet support it stronger than ever.

You even admit the NBA actual games were better yesterday but still praised the NFL(who’s actual games were poor) lol.

At this point The NFL has a cult like following in American society. There is nothing they can do to get people to stop watching. Not even touching the “respects the fans” bs.

Let’s just be for real, America these days in most aspects is about spectacle over substance. Whether it’s sports, politics, music, film, fashion, etc. And there’s no sports league that defines that mentality like the NFL. It doesn’t matter how competitive the games were, how good the teams were, or which players were on the field…Americans were lining up to watch. Because the NFL has done a brilliant job of selling an event.

Like I said yesterday in the game thread, they’ve completely mastered how to market a sports & entertainment product to Americans.

For what?

Then what happens when Netflix decides to give the NFL another $100 million to run games on Christmas Eve when it’s on Wednesday next season? Or when it lands on a Thursday the year after that

I think adjusting the league’s schedule on a whim every year to hide from the NFL like Omar coming makes Silver look more cowardly than anything. The people who want to watch the NBA will watch it

And going back to this…

Yesterday was actually proof for me that both leagues running games on Christmas is a good thing. Imagine if there were no NBA games on and those trash ass NFL games we got were the only show in town? Or what if next year the NFL games are fire while the NBA games are wack? As a fan of both leagues, I don’t see the issue.

It’s also why I think the NBA should start putting games on Thanksgiving again. I would’ve rather watched Knicks vs. Mavericks than Giants vs. Cowboys.

Ratings are irrelevant, the NFL will always win that battle in the U.S. The people who want to watch the NBA will watch

Mahomes, Kelce, Jackson, the Steelers as a whole, and add fukking Beyonce, and it wasn't even a question where the general viewer was gonna turn to. The NBA needs to have a referendum on how they handle their media, because that shyt is damn near LSA status which puts a lot of people off from that shyt....

NFL will most likely slaughter the NBA when it comes to ratings because football is religion in America, but those basketball games were elite yesterday. My Steelers threw up a dud, and I'm a Lamar guy but that second game wasn't really worth watching all the way through, basketball kept me fed yesterday.:manny:

NBC has already mentioned that they want to do a NBA/NFL tie-in on Superbowl Sunday, and it makes a ton of sense to do that... especially if it's on the same channel

You can’t feed people trash for years and then be surprised when they don’t show up the one day you serve something good.

The NBA has a long road ahead of itself to earn back the trust of casuals.

The NFL feeds audiences mediocrity and trash all the time, people just don’t care. They will watch regardless, which is fine. The existence of TNF alone is proof of that

It’s an uneven comparison because one league has to do way less to win over casuals

Put a double header at 12pm

Take the 19 hour pre game show to NFL Network
Facts, cause I'm never watching all that for 1 game.

I prefer waiting until kick-off anyway. If there are some high profile NBA matchups that lead right into the Superbowl

:banderas:

Perfect day for a sports fan
