It's sad because small market teams are fukked one way or another.

You rebuild and you don't get any luck cause of rigged bullshyt like this and then no legit free agent wants to go there anyway. So the chances of actually winning are slim.

Curry was 7th with Thabeet, Rubio, Tyreke Evans, and Jonny Flynn going before him. Blake and Harden actually panned out but Curry turned out to be the generational player in that draft.

Dallas was "ok" in the 80s. Then they were pure trash in the early 90s before The Three J's. Team got split up and they went back to trash.

Mavs saw Dirk at an international tournament and knew he was gonna be THAT DUDE. Even Charles Barkley was like "who is that cold azz German boy?" They drafted him without any real help and then had some sustained success.

It's almost like the league will help you but you have to get it out the mud at least once and build something....proof of concept. They don't want to throw premium assets at a franchise if they haven't shown an ability to make shyt happen.

West has generally had better run organizations since MJ was with the Bulls. Dirk going to Dallas, KG in Minnesota, KD/Russ/Harden in Seattle/OKC, Lakers trading Vlade for Kobe despite Kobe just being a high school kid....West has gotten some gifts but they have also hit on more picks.

League doesn't want to send stars to places where they will toil in obscurity. They want to send people to spots where they can thrive.

Got an elite big man that's versatile or a great international player? Send him to San Antonio (DRob, Timmy or Manu, Tony etc)

Got a white boy with game that's not afraid of the brehs? Send him to Dallas and they'll make him a star (Dirk, Luka etc).

Yup

Basically the league is telling those bottom team to go fukk themselves. No big free agent wants to go to bottom conference teams. Best bet for them is to hope they strike gold with lower draft pick or massively overpay some above average player and hope he ramps up his skills out there to the stardom.

Spurs and Mavericks showed they can built a championship contender and here we go...39 win and 34 win teams win two top picks.


A team in Charlotte hasn't done shyt since Baron Davis years and they don't feel confident seeing top rookies end up there.
