I'd bet my salary bootleg compass media was behind that account
Tony Bro had the opportunity to really level up and be a asset to Battlerap along the lines of JayBlac. All the cards were in his favor.
Only for him to fumble the ball and let clowns ruin the Black Compass Media brand and credibility.
And my thing is this.
All the dysfunction in Battlerap is why it’s at the place it’s at
I will always give JayBlac his respect, because I think despite him already being respected.
He STILL doesn’t get enough credit for what he brought to Battlerap
He genuinely tried to institutionalize Battlerap like Lupe Fiasco did with Hiphop at MIT to move the culture in a positive direction.
One that wasn’t built on trolling and perpetual fukkery, but on the artform that was birthed out of the street.
JayBlac:
• had battle breakdowns
• a point-system
• judged battles
• gave it a professional look
• gave battlers a monetary incentive to do good even though that shouldn’t even be necessary.
• barely acknowledged the problematic fukkery that should be kept outside of Battlerap
• came up with an annual prize and formal acknowledgment of good performances throughout the year
• came up with a judging system (that still has flaws because of bias judges, but still he tried..)
I believe if Battlerap stayed more focused on building with groundlevel principles that focused on the artform and continued to market from that foundation instead of choosing favoritism, it would’ve been more stable long-term and in a better place.
The money was gonna come regardless..
SM2 was a result of what was built on years of core principles from the DVDera.
And what I believe what JayBlac tried to do,
was add a system to restructure it and keep it art-form focused that sold and prevent it from becoming a popularity/beef/troll-focused culture that sold.
I barely watch his videos at this point, because T*ch 9 and Anwar made his videos unwatchable to me..
but his positive contribution to Battlerap is overwhelming visible.
Tony Bro could’ve been up there if he stayed focused and protected his brand credibility more as Black Compass and didn’t let others come in and ruin what he built under AngryFan Movement.
Shoutout to CAPS btw, he really fathered a lotta platforms.
