Just the fact that one has to pay SO much attention to a battle in order to really enjoy it.. I think that means battle rap itself is too complicated right now. I also think it means Clips and T-Top are the wrong ones to do this with, because they're rapper's rappers. Somebody like K-Shine or somebody like DNA, whos style is a little more easy to listen to and you don't really have to think about. Those are the kind of people you really want the new casual fan to hear for the first time. And I'll get flamed for that, and that's cool because you guys aren't the ones Smack is trying to reach, you're already fans. He needs people that aren't watching already. If they're jumping into a battle that has all these inside references to other battles, it's just too much. I still applaud this, because attaching to an event is always smart, like FreshAIG said

:heh:There's nothing complicated about Clips & T-Top.

:mjlol:

Although he used the wrong examples i see what he trying to say. Other battle rappers are more accessible to new fans then maybe a t-top

I understand what he's trying to say, but nah Clips & T Top are direct & straight to the point.

Top is one of the rappers I show to new people, because he's so easy to get. He cooks crack and sells it, what part of that is complicated?

I'm not even convinced you have to be that easy to get.

All I can say as I know that the people that bring in casual fans are not always the most entertaining or easy to get, but are really good at their craft.

This goes for battle rap, boxing, mma, etc

You're right, they're direct and straight to the point. But they're too... good?

Follow me on this..

I mean, if Smack really wanted to attract new fans (which yes, that's why he does stuff like this is purposely to attract new fans), he would put rappers that are more characters. And that'll happen over time because those kind of guys, guys like Daylyt, don't really need bars if they have the shenanigans. And the shenanigans are entertaining.

I'm just saying, in the future, all the rap parts of battle rap will slowly become PART of battle rap and not studied like they are now. In the future, I GUARANTEE you guys will hate the guys that are on URL because the brand will just get dumbed down. Insert the Jay-Z quote about how he used to rhyme like Common Sense. People are gonna be going "back in my day, we had JC and Chilla.." but to the new fans, the bars won't be as important, it will be overall performance. It's similar to shot percentage in basketball. Kyle Korver can shoot better than anybody but he sure as hell ain't never winning MVP. Meanwhile in battle rap, we still haven't seen who the Lebron is, I don't think he's here yet.

No....they're not. Nobody wants to see Day act an ass. The extra shyt he does is why he's never been on Smack. The live crowd doesn't wanna see that shyt either. Everytime he asks the crowd if they want antics, they all shout for the bars.

Don't see where you're going with this, It's been about the overall performance for quite some time now lol

:what:

Your talking about things that have already happened.

You have things that where started by others that are just part of battle rap now. The URL has already been dumbed down to accommodate the main stage. You have had guys like Aye Verb & DNA flat out say the try to keep it as simple as possible with a large crowd. It is about overall performance now. They gain new subscribers daily.

This is exactly how AHAT fukked up fam.

By the time they got a class of bar spitters with Myers, Dre Vishi$, Cali Smoov, and Young B no one cared because the brand was shyt. They did dumb shyt like promote No Shame (the tranny rapper) on Worldstar.

At the end of the day battle rap is always going to be about who can rap better. Maybe not even the best bars, but can the guy flow and hold your attention? Holla can do it without the best bars, Top does it while telling the same narrative every battle, Clips does it with a simple rhyme pattern the whole battle, etc.

It's also not a surprise that the guys who can flow the best and hold your attention all make good music as well. Rap in its essence is about moving the crowd. If you can do that you'll always be one of the best and captivate the masses.
