I actually stumbled on to one of Battle Truth's blogs the other day after seeing his screen caps for months and dismissing him as a clown. I listened to his shyt and at first I was :what:.....then :ehh:... by the end of his blog I was :russ:.

I was in shocked that someone was actually roasting JayBlac especially since the battle rap community treats Blac like royalty and like he's untouchable. I had to give him a subscription for that.

I also watch another one of his videos where he said Vada Fly was a potato peeler in the army.

BT has improved. It looks like he has learned how to make more sense of what he is saying and actually come up with better jokes. That potato peeler shyt is funny tho.

I respect Jayblac but I never held him up as some people do. One of my favorite blogs of his was how he snapped on X-Factor when he lost to Goodz. I like that Jayblac better.

He needs to completely rebrand.

Not only does he need to rebrand, he needs to revamp his style again.

I clicked on some random battles and he just sounded very formulaic. Just very stale and just needs to go back to the drawing board.

Some guys have a timeless style and Chilla isn’t one of them.

I know a lot of people think Charlie had a great year, but he’s another guy that I wish would revamp. I think it’s dope how DNA will change his style up to stay fresh.

With the type of guys the URL has in their rotation, there is no reason why Chilla shouldn’t be in the mix. The funny thing is he kind of came back too soon to the URL (even though he was fire for the Prep battle). This roster they have now is perfect for him.

Charlie Clips is the definition of overrated average shyt

Sometimes I can't believe this the same nikka I was amazed by when he battled Roc.

I dunno man, I simply can't listen to his elementary bars and get hype.
Shyt just just doesn't give me that feel, for years

With Roc, at least he'll get gully and have that energy behind him.

Clips just recycles concepts too much for me.
He'll start losing and giggling to deflect the public from his asswhoopings, shyts annoying.

Charlie’s basic ass is dope in spots, but he really benefit from revamping his style. He got everything. The rap voice, presence, etc.

The guy sounds like he just created his material 10 minutes ago and never read a book in his life.

Chilla doesn't sell tickets and they can pay Gwitty Chess and them in Subway tokens

Top 20 Battle Rappers of 2017 | The Source
Since the early 2000’s, a whole sub-culture of emceeing has made its way into the hearts of Hip-Hoppers that value raw lyricism over pop rhyming. People around the world have taken to YouTube with excitement (and before thenSMACK DVDs, Lionz Den or MTV2’s Fight Klub), to catch their favorite stars spar in this the underground battle rap world. Street emcees have found their niche and the culture has not only developed into a premier genre of music, but as its own industry. Many attribute this business model to SMACK/URL, but quite honestly leagues from all over have turned lyrical combat bouts into serious money… building up their own set celebrities for fans to follow.

The Source is always in the midst of cultural revolutions. And with the help of the battle rap community (league owners, bloggers, artists & fans), we’ve curated a list of the Top 20 Battle Rappers of 2017. Topping the list are millennial fiyyah-spitters that prove that that this ancient rap art form (one that sparked the careers of early rap legends like LL Cool J, Roxanne Shante and Eminem) is still alive and well. If anyone thought that battling was dead,Remy Ma vs. Nikki Minaj and Murder Ma$evs. Killa Cam put that notion all the way to rest in 2017. In fact, Ma$e has even reached out to SMACK/URL to start discussions about getting on the stage with some of the new cats (some of which are on this list).

The list is as followed:

1. TayRoc (Baltimore, MD)

2. T-Top (Fuquay-Varina, NC)

3. Brizz Rawsteen (Raleigh, NC by way of Wilmington, DE)

4. JC (Pontiac, MI)

5. Nu Jersey Tw0rk (Trenton, NJ)

6. O-Red (Newark, NJ)

7. DNA (Queens, NY)

8. Rum Nitty (Phoenix, AZ)

9. Cortez (Brooklyn, NY)

10. B-Dot (Pacoima, CA)

11. Loso (Tampa, FL)

12. Iron Solomon (Brooklyn, NY)

13. Ave (Norfolk, VA)

14. Geechie Gotti (Compton, CA)

15. Chef Trez (Atlanta, GA)

16. Goodz (Bronx, NY)

17. Shotgun Suge (Newark, NJ)

18. Ill Will (Pontiac, MI)

19. Arsonal (Newark, NJ)

20. Mike P (Long Island, NY)

What does this list show?

Pioneers of the genre such as : O-Red, Cortez, Iron Solomon, Goodz and Arsonal have shown they can still compete against the new and emerging talent of battle rap’s next generation. Vets such as Tay Roc, Shotgun Suge and DNA continue to prove why they command respect in every battle. Noticeably missing are female emcees. Though they did not make the list femcees such as 40 Barrs, Shooney Da Rapper, E-Hart and Official were mentioned as contenders.

What probably jumps out most on this list is that about 90% of this new class of battle rap champions are not from New York, which has traditionally been the Mecca of the genre. It seems that genre has reached across the country- even out into the world with leagues like King Of The Dot (Canada), Real Talk Battle League (Australia) and Don’t Flop (England) begging to book these domestic artists at top dollar. Let’s see if next year is just as exciting.

Honorable mentions include K-Shine, Dizaster, Jimz and Charlie Clips

Chilla not included because Norbes got butt hurt he turned down another rookie battle (after he already Prep and Saga) Forget who he was offered, but he turned that down but then went and battled Arcane on KOTD. So Norbes gave Chilla the :camby: after that. Why he still getting battles through Norbes, no clue.

It doesn’t matter.

A lot of these guys can’t sell tickets individually.

Rum Nitty was literally having a breakdown on angryfan radio. The nygga couldn’t get booked. You could say the same thing about him at the time right ? Url didn’t need him.

It’s not about one guy. It’s about a collection of guys. Chilla would be a good addition to their core guys.
