People keep asking why I wore a Jaz The Rapper shirt in my Aye Verb battle. Well for starters it's not just her. For my next 4-5 battles I will represent a diffrent lady in the battle community. And no...it's not to score points with them, (although getting caught on an episode of "Cheaters" with Precise by my wife would be well worth it lol!), I personally want to show appreciation to the women because they work just as hard as the men and get half the credit. The moment a fire bar comes out of a females mouth, someone says "somebody wrote that for her". That is NOT the case all the time. The women have closed the gap in regards to the written material. The complexity and ingenuity in their rhymes has definitely risen in the last 5 or so years. I personally felt girl battlers were all whack a few years ago. That perception has drastically changed since then. These women are not only just as good as men, in some cases they are better. Jaz, Official, C3, Hustle, Bonnie, E Hart, among a slew of others can bar it out with any man, any given day. Win or lose, they will be respected by the end of the battle. As far as ghostwriting goes...it's a grey area. We can't say for sure who is being written for and who is not. My view on that is so what! People are quick to scrutinize the women of battle for this but in actuality, a lot of the MEN have ghost writers! But no one ever brings that up huh? Also, many prominent, singers, rappers, male and female have writers. It happens. And will forever continue. End of story. Although I must say it is far less respected in battle rap due to this being the purest form of Hip-Hop. Even in the case of a female spitting rhymes that were written for her, she still has to PERFORM AND SAY those 5-9 minutes of bars PERFECTLY! No easy feat by any means! But again that is not the point of this post, I feel since the days of MC Lyte, Latifah, Rage, Apache, Boss, Lil Kim, Foxy, Jean Grey, Najiree Earth, among others, women have never got their props. Times are changing, and it will take support from men in order for these women to get their due. Shout to Debo, Babs, and the entire qotr staff for helping these ladies shine. Salute NuNu, Chell Bell, Miz da great, imani Platts the women of PG bloggers and every other lady supporting this culture whether with their bars, brains or bodies lol! If nobody else loves you, Danny does. Now what's Precyse #?
