One of my boys that is heavy into battle rap introduced me to it over this past year. I think one of the first battles he put me on to was Hitman/Aye Verb, and then Charlie Clips massacre of T-RexI wish I was this lucky, most of my attempts of putting folks onto battle rap usually ends in disaster. References go over heads or folks are like "put a beat on" like Freeway
When are you putting him onto Lux thoughAt least show him Lux vs Hollow
The problem is it was just overload for me because he would always recommend like 5-6 battles at a time and I'd only be trying to watch one or two every now and then. Over time I just started watching more, I'd hear something in one battle and then remember a reference from a previous one like
I still consider myself a casual, I'm not a diehard follower but I know who the major players are and I do find many of the battles to be entertaining..I dont think I ever even posted in this subforum before I just be lurking reading yall shyt
Oh, I got my girl on to battle rap. A few things about that:
1. She picked up the formula pretty quickly, and knows how to write bars. She's a writer by nature though.
2. She's not impressed with anyone's writing in battle rap. Just looks at it as entertainment. Her favorites consist of DNA, K-Shine, & 40 Barrs.
3. Hard to gauge what battles she will like. She'll like a battle that I wouldn't think she would like, and vice versa.

I'm not gonna front. I'm listening to this shyt and I'm like "he's doing too much." I turned it off halfway through.
DNA vs Shine and Brizz vs DOT are both really good early adopter battles.I told him Lux was the God of this shyt and showed him the Hot97 freestyle before we watched the JC vs Chilla battle
He fukked with it, but I could tell a LOT went over his head.
So I told him we’d revisit it when he’s used to higher level lyrisism, cause he simply couldn’t comprehend the depth of lyricism he was listen to.
After the JC vs Chilla battle he understood this is a whole different level of penmanship and said that if Lux is even better than them he’d want get walked into a Lux battle by watchin other battles first and get used to bars on a high level.
When he finished Aye Verb vs Holla I told him “Remember when I told you about Lux, his talk to em round is even worse”
He said he definitely doesn’t want to get exposed to Lux yet cause he’s afraid after that he’ll think the other pen nikkas will come across less special.
I get that, so I’mma hit him with some different styles before I get there.
He wanted to watch a bodybag with a good crowd so I’mma show him the Bigg K vs Half Past Seven battle as his 3rd battle.
And show him another style clash with B Magic vs Qleen as his 4th.
A one-rounder with Yung Ill vs T-Rex as his 5th battle
Once he gets to that Lux vs Hollow tho
Then you can start him on DOT after her sees his lowest point.

I feel like we need to make a definitive list of introductory battles to get new nikkas onto this shyt.
Don't show him them battles where you need to be a seasoned battle rap head to catch shyt (eg don't show him classics like Verb vs Hitman or even Lux vas Cal)
Start with shyt like JC vs Chilla to explain what pen type or scheme oriented nikkas do.
Then show him some shyt like JJDD vs B-Magic to show him what punchline nikkas do etc
The battles don't even need to be classics, but just battles that outline the different aspects of this shyt.

Aggression vs jokes
Examples of rebuttals, exposals, setups into haymakers, etc.
Gotta teach em the basic dimensions first so they can grasps what's going on when you start showing em people who do multiple things at one time
