Is there a more desperate battler than Math Hoffa...smh
When I see a blog like this, I feel that Math has lost sight of what the URL was created for. I've heard the URL staff say this numerous times. It's to provide a platform for emcee's to show off their talent & be able to meet emcee's in different areas of the country & network. A platform to create a name for yourself & promote your music. It's basically suppose to be a stepping stone to something else. He's benefited from this platform, as he had the opportunity to be on a reality tv show. He's done a song with Method Man, a feature he probably would not have gotten if Meth wasn't a fan.
Battle rappers get plenty of perks. Free flights, hotels, groupies, exposure, & a paycheck.
I feel battle rap is a passion sport for all parties involved. League owners consistently say there is no money in battle rap. You may be able to get a nice paycheck every now & then, but the intent is to use it as a stepping stone as opposed to making it a career. I don't knock anyone who makes it a career, especially if your doing what you love. I also realize that things change & perhaps you don't have to make it a stepping stone.
If you feel your not getting what your worth, don't battle. Lux waited it out.
Math Hoffa talks league owners not paying - pg's don't understand their worth

Organik's response
Hoffa Luyah.. You my dude, but this is what you asked for lol
In response to your blog about bigger leagues taking advantage of rappers I’d like to point out the fact that I’d be happy to walk away from every event with 1500 & that’s coming from the person who has to spend 3 months setting the event up, take all financial risk & liability while doing the bullshyt work. people are confused.
to break it down, UFC fighters get paid about .2% of the revenue brought in from events.. door does 17million, PPV does 35million fighters get paid 20-200K...
Battle leagues bring in 40K and each battler wants 3-5K lol... lets not forget about the other expenses leagues have to pay like.. production, rentals, staff, insurance, legal fee's, graphic design, marketing, or any of the thousands of other expenses.
Battle rappers are higher paid then surgeons. Some are making 1K per minute.. Brain surgeons dont get that and have to spend 700K and 8 years of their life in school JUST to make that. So... what about the leagues? do the rappers look out for the leagues? when they breach contract do they compensate the league from brand damages and event losses? i mean, thats what a contract is for right? to protect both sides of the party... but rappers look at it as a one way street. They need managers, and legal managers. Not just your buddy you grew up with.. people that understand the industry rates and procedures.
not only that, the bigger leagues offer YOU branding. If your battles and videos on your own channel only get 80-150K but get 500K on the main channels of the leagues then the league is offering YOU something.. Branding is a huge integral part of business that companies pay THOUSANDS for.. yet rappers dont ever consider that when taking offers from the bigger leagues. Also, $1500 for a million views? LMAO... c'mon now, i showed CHRIS UNBIAS REVIEW our Youtube revenue and he can back me up on this HILARIOUS accusation.
Not only that, what about the stuff the league does for the rappers? Ive brought Drake out to SEVERAL battles... thats branding you couldn’t pay for with 500K.. try it, good luck, let me know how it goes. But ya, leagues are taking advantage of the rappers smh
This topic of conversation is actual pretty comical to someone like myself. Im up for debating this topic openly and freely any day of the week.
its actually amazing to see that every league seems to be struggling... what league has made it past 5 years other then us and Dont Flop?
oh but if its so easy and were taking advantage and caking then why isnt the success rate higher then 1%??
this shyt is hilarious to me, should i call my account in to chime in on this as well? i mean this is a pretty good laugh for all of us
We do everything from film in 4k resolution to bringing out the biggest celebrities in the game... why do we do this? because it helps build the rappers BRAND... when people go on YouTube and type your name in and just see battles in little leagues with horrible production, set up in a small venue with times new roman font.. what does that say about your brand? probably not the best look right? Its amazing how things like this continually get over looked... what about the the continuous twitter and fb blasts that help build the brands?
but damn, ticket prices at a door must be so good they can cover flights, hotels, cameras, lighting, editing, rentals, audio, audio board operaters, dumping stations, hard drives, photography, graphic design, banners, printing, marketing, accounting fee's, taxes, legal fee's, event insurance, staff payouts for 30+, talent payouts for 30+, venue rentals, dj's, drivers, + the many many other expenses... AND STILL MAKE enough to piss off the greedy rappers...its almost amazing to see how under appreciated it all is... when i lose 30K on an event do any rappers give a fukk? but if i make 30K on an event yall act like we robbed you.. see how this works?
Also, is their millions of dollars of liability on your shoulders if someone gets hurt at the event? if someone faints? if someone slips? gets knocked out? cause we have to pay 20K a year for event insurance to be protected of those liabilities.
And what do the leagues get when the brand gets damaged or loses money to a certain rappers actions? i mean that contract is there for a reason.. do we sue for brand damages, loss of wages and all that? How do the leagues get compensated? do rappers want to deal with the REAL side of business or do they just wanna act like they deserve all this money with no liability?..
just to put some things into perspective for you
Rich Franklin got $17,000 to fight Anderson Silva for the UFC title, In a venue that sold $12million in tickets, and over $25Million in PPV's... he was the champion at the time and also just finished being their ‘star’ on a reality TV show.
Keith Jardine got paid 14,000 to fight Chuck Liddel in a Main Event @ UFC 76, in a stadium that sold 11 Million in door tickets and 19Million in PPV Sales.. google it
how does it feel knowing that ESPN has never paid a FIGHTER pover 2K to fight on Friday Night Fights??
don’t believe me? Here is video proof - Owner of UFC discussion Payrates for MMA Fighters & ESPN Boxing fighter rates.
What’s ignorant about this statement and blog is the fact that you as rappers would BENEFIT from the leagues having more money to play with but yall are so concerned on short term gains that you forget about the advantages of the company growing and benefiting you in the long run. Longevity is key, yall wanna just grab and run as fast as you can.
either way, im down to debate this topic anyday of the week.
& No, there is no guilt in paying rappers 5x what I get paid when im doing 10x the work and taking all the financial risk and liability. When your done your battle your job is done.. when your done your battle I still have a big job left to do.. also, as a league owner I cant just decide to not throw events for months and take a break cause it effects hundreds of rappers that rely on my platform for a paycheck.. but rappers have that option, no days off for us, all the financial risk and liabity, 10x the workload of the rappers.... but YOU want paid more? Lool
looking forward to your response.
