The Stepfather has an all-timer of a "psycho" impression for Terry O'Quinn. It's quintessential 80's horror, with O'Quinn flipping from a family man to a psychopath with ease. Dude can be threatening, caring, or both at once. It's campy and fun.

My biggest complaint about Stepfather is how they throw away the storyline where a brother of a former victim is trying to track down the killer. It takes up a decent chunk of time, but ends in an abrupt anticlimax. It could have been a dynamic B-story, but it winds up getting shortchanged at the end.

I'm going to try and watch Salem's Lot if I can find it. At the end of September I watched Needful Things and The Stand. I fukked with The Stand heavy for the first 2 episodes, but I feel like the ending wasn't as strong. They probably needed more time to cover the story. Needful Things was classic King showing that everyone in that small town was one small nudge away from complete fukkery, and not the perfect place to live like you'd think.

I also watched a King movie, The Dark Half. If you're a fan of the sleazy/cheesy King movies like Thinner, Sleepwalkers, or Silver Bullet you might like this one. I found it pretty fun and I still didn't trust Michael Rooker after watching that Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer. I just now realized that the main character's wife is Miss Gladys from Weapons

I wanted to watch The Dark Half for the longest because I enjoyed the fukk outta Malignant(watched it twice in the same week), and tried to watch movies that inspired it. I'd say this, Basket Case, and Dario Argento's Trauma 1993 are all movies that inspired Malignant heavily. The villain in Malignant looks more like a Giallo killer from one of Argento's 70s or 80s movies.


Messiah of Evil

"The names Thom. That's Tom with an H, and the H is for hoes."

Good film that gives you the feeling of being uncomfortable in a place that sees you as an outsider. Terrific use of lighting. I watched Razorback a couple of weeks ago, and the lighting was great as well, but this movie was a lot more interesting.

If anyone has some more small town horror movie recommendations please let me know, I love this sub genre.

I've been searching for 'Needful Things' on streaming with no luck. I was going to suggest it for our 31 days but it doesn't look like it's on anything right now. smh. I love the small town Stephen King vibes, always have

'Messiah of Evil' got pretty crazy by the end. I liked this. I feel like one of these newer auteur horror directors would be able to do a dope remake of this and make it look great. The whole vibes of that town were spooky season. I am also a fan of anything with cult shyt going on.
