I feel kinda bad that I'm the one who made the thread for this one, and 28 Days is one of my fav movies of all time, yet I'm just now gettin' around to seeing this

Oh well lol, there was was some stuff that worked and then there was some stuff that left me like....what we doing 🤨.

The Good:

I (obviously) liked the first half a lot; it was tense, emotional, and grounded for the most part. The island setting + the world building with the community/family was on point. And you could see DB going for almost a fairy tale perspective of a boy processing death through diff lenses. And most of the cinematography was as advertised.

The Bad:

The tonal shifts of all tonal shifts had me wondering if it was crakk or dust ya mans was on during this bacc half

Once the youngin' got ma dukes up off that island, it takes a sharp turn. The random soldier, albeit funny, I don't know if it was needed or if I liked it.

There ain't even no need to really say much about Jimmy and his Teletubby brigade lol.

I'll still be lookin' for the sequels but I hope they tighten up.

I've noticed you guys wanted to watch some franchises. I'd be down.

I already decided to watch the Halloween series since I've been wanting to for awhile and started after watching Halloween.

Halloween II

Not bad, but it doesnt hqve the suspence of the first movie. You get to know a few characters in the hospital which is the highlight for me. That and the hot bath scene.

Halloween 3

This movie is actually kinda nuts. I would add it to a yearly watch, but that fukking song is just too much for me, im sorry:pachaha:

I've seen it before and still had fun. Tom Atkins' in this and Night of the Creeps are gold. I should watch more of his movies.

Halloween 4

I actually fukk with this one pretty heavy. The characters are all fun. Dr. Loomis has become a favorite by this time. This is probably the first Halloween I ever watched way back. The scenes with Earl and the guys were cracking me up. Thise and the Sheriff:mjlol:

Halloween 5

Danielle Harris acts really good in this movie. Its more of a Friday the 13th than a Halloween movie. This has been the worst Halloween movie so far. I don't think I'd revisit this anytime soon.

I also watched a couple random horror movies in between. The ones that I remeber are:

Saint Maud

I watched this with some friends, and they thought it was just weird. I thought it was good....maybe. This story has stucks with me more than most movies I watched all year. Seeing crazy 1st hand is more terrifying to me than anything else.

Screamboat

You know what this wasn't all that bad:russ:

This is the first public domain slasher that I've watched, but these guys did good. I enjoyed all of the easter eggs to Disney stuff that they threw in there like song names and how the party girls were dressed. Its produced by the Terrifier people and has Art the Clown's actor playing the mouse. Also the blonde that drugs Sienna in Terrifer 2 is in this.

If you enjoy low budget slashers that don't take theirself seriously and classic Disney movies I'd recommend it.

I've really gotta go back and rewatch this one, I even skipped it when I binged the Halloween movies a while back.

Definitely where Loomis peaked. He got crazier and crazier each movie, but this was the sweet spot.

Yeah fam, I feel like this is too much of a slow burn for a lot of people. But the religious stuff tends to stick with me, and some of the foulness in this just really sticks. Something about her hearing the voice of God in a cockroach really hits for me. That last shot too...oof.

But I do sorta have a bias for the "people having breakdowns" genre too.

I'm a Catholic School lifer (Kindergarten through High School). I think that's why the Biblical stuff freaks me out the most, since it takes me back to my youthful god-fearing days.

I'm not Catholic but went from 3rd grade to 12th. I was raised Baptist, went to Sunday School and all that.

That's why I like religious horror alot. I get to put all that knowledge to use and know how evil whatever the people face is real.

I watched the first Prophecy movie with Christopher Walken in September. I'm not sure if I should continue that series or not.

That first one's a borderline classic for me! The rest of the Prophecy movies, I only recall being mid but I have to rewatch.

I definitely feel like that knowledge and religious background makes the symbols hit. The Exorcist 1 and 3 are two all-timers for me, but I think some of it would be lost on me if I hadn't grown up in Churches and with pastors as important figures.

Ironically, it can also backfire though. I hate the Nun movies because I feel like the religious setting isn't utilized in any meaningful ways.

It's sounding like Osgood Perkins' new movie isn't gonna live up to the trailer. But I still really want to peep it.

I'm beginning to think Perkins will never live up to the Blackcoat's Daughter. I REALLY like that movie while the rest of his stuff ranges from weak (I am the pretty thing that lives in the house) to good but not great (the Monkey and Longlegs).

Here's one I gave a shot off the strength of a good concept...and now I have to express mostly disappointment. But it at least reminded me of a throwback I used to like.

Killstreak is basically set up like you're watching some twitch streamers get ready to play a game together, and it turns out if they die in-game, they die for real. It's got a PS1 style game with actual clips of the people "playing" and as they lose or try to quit, they get picked off. It's not reinventing the wheel, but the main antagonist thing actually has some potential.

The problem is the acting is pretty bad almost across the board. The kills are on a budget, though they're not terrible but you've seen most of them before if you've watched movies like Unfriended and Host. The plot has about as much effort as a regular twitch stream, and the dialogue is brutally bad.

So, there are some good ideas and a cool cameo for E-Sports fans, but it feels like a flop in execution. I'm pretty disappointed to say I can't recommend it unless you're looking for "so bad it's kinda funny" trash horror.

On the bright side, this reminded me of an old gamer horror with a similar concept that I haven't watched in ages. Does anyone remember Stay Alive?

I feel like it was schlocky and kinda bad. But a young nerdy me dug it and it BODIES this new joint for sure. I may have to go back and watch it again.
