$5,000 is quite a hefty price tag for removing a tree! Here are some more budget-friendly options and some unconventional solutions:

### **Cheaper Alternatives**
1. **Get Multiple Quotes** – Don’t settle for the first estimate. Check with various local tree service companies, including smaller or independent contractors, who might offer a better deal.
2. **Municipal Help** – Some cities or counties offer free or low-cost tree removal if the tree poses a safety hazard or interferes with power lines.
3. **Utility Companies** – If the tree is near power lines, your utility company might remove it at no charge.

4. **DIY Removal (With Help)** – If the tree isn’t massive, renting equipment like chainsaws or stump grinders could cut costs significantly. You could also post in community groups to see if experienced locals are willing to help for less.

### **Out-of-the-Box Ideas**
1. **Sell the Wood** – If it’s a desirable type (oak, walnut, etc.), lumber companies, woodworkers, or firewood suppliers might remove it for free in exchange for the wood.
2. **Barter for Services** – Offer trade skills in exchange for tree removal. Landscapers, contractors, or even neighbors might be open to a trade.
3. **Turn It Into a Work of Art** – If removal is too costly, consider leaving the stump and hiring a chainsaw artist to carve something cool out of it.
4. **Tree Donation** – Some organizations take large trees for environmental projects or milling. They might cut and haul it away at no cost.
5. **Rent Equipment and Host a "Tree Removal Party"** – Gather friends or community members who have experience with cutting trees. Offer food and drinks in exchange for help.

I'm going to try these two options again, the tree is next to a fukking powerline, and these cocksuckers don't want do anything about it :mjpls:

I'm going to trying emailing TVA / Tennessee Valley Authority and see if they can get the local power company to help

This might be my favorite diy'r on IG that I follow. She's a woman after my own heart. I love her candidness, and her work process and mindset is eerily similar to mine lol.

Decided to install Google Nest, and replace my old thermostat. So far it's been an awful experience. I thought this shyt would take 15-20 mins... I'm having to strip and splice wires, then once finally hooked up properly, the nest is saying certain wires aren't detected. Then apparently some adaptor is needed and they have to mail that out now.

Anyone else run into these problems? Legit about to just re-install the old thermostat :russ:and say fukk it.

word? what are the differences? Shorty wanted it so we/she can control it from bed, which I'm assuming most of these things can do.

@cheek100 does hvac and recommended ecobee over all the other brands a while ago. We hvent had any problems with ours. I had to run a white common wire as well, but any smart device will necessitate a white/common/neutral wire to operate since they’re always on. I think i had to do something a lil extra to get mine running too, but i don’t remember what, i imagine cheek could probably walk you through it though.

If you cant figure it out after they get back to you, report back here with the info. If it can jog my memory im sure i could get you up and running if you’re not afraid to put in a little elbow grease.

Get the ecobee fuk the headache

I think he’s going to run into the same problem he’s having with the google since it sounds like a wiring issue rather than a tech one. I do agree on ditching it for the ecobee however

If u don’t have a common wire most wifi tstats come with a converter.
How many wires are coming out the wall for your existing stat?

I appreciate your help.

This is the current thermostat, that I've since uninstalled. Not every wire was connected for this set up but it includes:

White
Green
Red
Yellow (spliced with Red)
Orange
Blue
Grey

Issue I ran into was when I installed the Nest, it was saying it wasn't detecting the Blue & Orange wires...then I had to take them all out to reconnect them, then it said it wasn't detecting a couple more wires after that :francis: at which point it was like 10PM and I was like fukk it I'll deal with this tmrw
