I guess that striking is what makes the difference.
Yes, in that fight he didnt expend any energy trying to take Anderson down. He was hoping it would just fall in his lap and it never did so anderson poked at him to avoid being caught in a takedown and Maia stood in front of him waiting for him to make a mistake. This is why the fight ended in a decision. Neither fighter wanted to commit.
Wrestling is used for takedowns and control for ground and pound. You're right though. Wrestling should be used to set up striking. Wrestling does have many submissions though. The arm triangle is a wrestling submission.
and herein lies the problem, what the hell does this have to do with page being susceptible to wrestlers who will beat him easily just by clock watchingI rest my case, you can't real fighters fight they don't wrestle
how often is an mma finished by a straight up wrestling technique, it's either striking or BJJ
its like you suffer from autism or something its actually quite disquietingand herein lies the problem, what the hell does this have to do with page being susceptible to wrestlers who will beat him easily just by clock watchingits like you suffer from autism or something its actually quite disquieting
yo, I hope and pray for the day when fighters are soo good at defense and strikes, and defenses against getting ur brains kicked out - that Silva has to show the world hs true BJJ skills. I don't feel like we've even seen it yet. I was hoping dude with all his Maia accolades would try Silva, and have Silva counter and submit him faster than Maia did the dude in his first mma fight.
I agree with most this post but the bit in bold.Stann's striking is mediocre and his TDD is horrid so with the threat of a double leg he won't do much against GSP standing. As for weidman not really a fan so maybe someone in the know can dispel this but aint his striking rudimentry? GSP isn't likely to be as dumb as munoz and charge in head first he's too conservative for that.If they were to fight either weidman smoothers him (as the bigger dude) or its a boring kickboxing tap match
No one wants to be on the ground, friend. You eat too much punishment to end the fight, which is why submissions are used when one of the opponents is weakened. Its for *finishing* moves not so much a primary offensive weapon. The days of taking abuse like Royce Gracie are over. The ground game is great for offense during emergencies, or quick surprises but as a primary offensive weapon, its not as common anymore. Damien Maia is respresenting right now though. Taking little damage and keeping control on the ground. Most guys just want to bang it out and avoid the takedown or just use it to score points and ground n pound.I know wrestling has submission but when in recent history as someone been finished by a wrestling move, Im talking about notable matches skilled elite fighters
Only one I can recall is Brock Lesnar with the head crank
Stand up is becoming more and more dominate in MMA, because guys can get back up to their feet
A guy who is all wrestler and little bit of everything else is not going to compete.
Jon Jones is not a great wrestler, he's good enough to negate that shyt when facing somebody who's main arsenal is wrestling. When Jon Jones fights he doesn't go into the fight trying to wrestle his opponent, so you can't use him has an example.
If u truly watched it i shouldnt have to elaborate on anything. It was another in a long line of travesties where the unified rules favored the wrestler for doing nothing but repeatedly attempting TDs. Successfully completing 1 then stalling. All the significant strikes, TDDs and sub defense came from lhis opponent but it didnt score as highly.I watched the fight... can u elaborate?
I think his philosophy on fighting and life and family are his biggest strengths. I also, feel that's why he doesn't vibe well with the culture of the league and owners- at times.Silva has to win fights, his way. Thats all he has to do. He isnt a BJJ fighter, Maia is. Andersons base is striking and he has solidified that by having a black belt in BJJ in preparation for the ground. Hes getting old now though so i doubt we're going to see that, just for the heck of it, friend.

The point of using this to anchor my argument about page is just being a great striker with jitz isnt enough in the ufc surely not enough if u are thinking of being a welterweight because we know that division has a slew of wrestlers

didnt bisbing also take down stann too? and the leben that got KOd by stann was over the limit on painkillers no?I use to think that Stann's takedown defense was horrid, but then I rewatched some of his loses, and came away he has good take down defense. He got taken down by Sonnen and Phil Davis, Davis fight was at 205 and both he and Sonnen are world class wrestlers. Sonnen has taken down some of the best, ahem Anderson Silva at will. If GSP went up, Stann would be a great warm up match for him, GSP could test if strong enough to get Stann down, and if can handle the striking of Mr. Stann. Anybody who can finish mr leben's and his hard head I gotta give sum sorta credit too.
because hes based in london and has always been based in london.Which isnt known for wrestling? non to speak of on the school curriculum or college level = you arent likely to have competent coaches = or fighters with such skill its just common senseHow can you say that? How do you know they will be able to take him down, and why does that have to do with him needing to be in the UFC to add some more excitement.
And even if they take him down, how do you know he won't be able to get back up, or submit them, dude is a real martial artist,
