Nah that can't be right dude. Just checked this site - Revenu Québec - Income Tax Rates

Income tax looks to be about the same, perhaps even less than Ontario. In Ontario i think tax comes out to 40% if you are earning over 150K annually.
Ontario income tax for someone making about 80K is like 9% after 42K and 5% for the first 42K

in Quebec it starts at 20%, and if you are making more goes up even more from there.

Actually here is the breakdown for Ontario

5.05% on the first $41,536 of taxable income, +
9.15% on the next $41,539, +
11.16% on the next $66,925, +
12.16% on the next $70,000, +
13.16 % on the amount over $220,000

Vs Quebec

$42,390 or less 16%
More than $42,390, but not more than $84,780 20%
More than $84,780, but not more than $103,150 24%
More than $103,150 25.75%
\
so yea, as you can see, Quebec tax is like double the Ontario rate. It's fukkin crazy. If you are making 150K you would save ALOT more in Ontario

make 100K and give away 10K+ MORE just to live in La Belle Province!!! naw fukk that.

PLUS, pay more sales tax afterwards. Pay higher prices on food and gas also?

b-b-b-b-but at least beer is a bit cheaper.

If you're comparing cost of living you gotta compare apples to apples so Montreal to Toronto, as theyre the biggest cities in Eastern Canada. All things considered its cheaper to live in Montreal.

Although in terms of internal migration patterns, way more Montrealers leave to live in Toronto than the other way around :patrice:

I don't know if its really cheaper either. Quebec is more expensive but Montreal also has extra costs, and more expensive shyt.
For example, you have to pay an extra $50/ year in Montreal for a metro tax when you register your car.
Gas is over 10 cents more
food costs more, taxes are higher.....oh yeah...taxes are much higher.

it really isn't that much more cheaper really, if at all. especially when wages are higher in toronto.

Rent is the biggest saver in Montreal though, way cheaper. But if you give that back just on income tax then where is the savings? when you lose more paying more sales tax on everything.

A night on the town is gonna be the same. restaurants, bars, clubs, etc. are pretty similar. Entertainment prices are pretty similar.

Cell phones ARE a lot cheaper in quebec though. you get way more for your $.

but again, when you factor in everything, the differences are negligible. At the end of the day you aren't saving much living in Montreal.

now if you wanna go to Ottawa?? you will definitely save a lot more vs Montreal and Toronto.

Ok i must be missing something crucial here. We are just talking about how much the PROVINCE takes from your income right? Not provincial + federal govt altogether? Because I pay 20% income tax in total and im an ontario resident. If i was living in quebec you are saying it would be 30%? Hell naawww... efff that. Im inclined not to believe you because what u r saying is fukkin ridiculous. Double the tax? What for? What's the justification? :dahell:

I found a tax calculator online that lists after tax income by province. Quebec definitely taxes more but it is not as exagerrated as you are making it out to be at the lower tax brackets which i assume most of this board is in ... but if you are making 150k and up :merchant: ... get the hell out of Quebec :damn:

I wasn't exaggerating it at all, I actually posted the direct tax rates from the government site

doesn't matter how much you are making, you are giving up 10% or more of your salary to quebec, just off the top

If you are making 50K a year you are paying...
$2875/year in Ontario for provincial taxes

or $10000/year in Quebec

IMO 7K is a big difference , especially if you are only making 50K

if you are making under 41K you are still giving up 11% more just in taxes QC.
