Everyone overextended regardless of you owning a condo or a single family home
owning a home/shelter is seen as a luxury in Canada and no one wants to invest elsewhere
thats how the market was though back then. I remember in 2018 houses in my area were selling for like 2 million

like this was a 2 million house now it will stay on the market for months.
The worst is anyone who bought a condo though

Feels like 99 percent of the new immigrants are from india
The security guards in my neighborhood used to be a mix of white /black/brown
And now it’s just Indians
They will put in 15 hour workdays but actually do no work
Half the time on their phone

A lot of people in Canada are fukking stupid
If they left that down payment in the stock market in 2021-2022 that 200K-250K down payment would be worth almost double now
by just doing nothing. Leaving your money in ETFs or any of the Magnificent 7. I blame the media and real estate agents for making people think if they didn’t buy a house immediately they’d be left behind forever.

No doubt I remember all this clearly but none of those homes were actually worth those prices and if you watched the market (most people didn’t) from 2011 to 2021-2022 you’d know we were in a bubble and none of those prices made any sense.
There were so many fukking alarm bells ringing that none of this made sense and people said ahh well let’s throw 250-300k on this 1.5 million dollar house in Sauga/Brampton (that was clearly only worth 800-900k). Condos were even worse. Folks buying 800-900k condos for 2brs downtown while they can literally hundreds of cranes in the sky with more buildings yet to come online and you thought your 800-900k condo was good value?
I could’ve sold my condo during that time but I knew I’d just be buying another overpriced product and would be fukked and over leveraged. I kept tucking that extra cash into the market and came out way better than if I sold.
Now there’s homes all over Toronto for that price and lower that you can get downtown or right on the outskirts.

I gotta drive like fukkin Dom Torretto just to avoid accidents and go to the gym at 4am just so it ain’t crowded
