All Star
Not even between rappers...but the genre itself. Niccas don't respect the game. I mean -
1) The elements don't matter anymore. I'm not even a KRS-ass "I am hip-hop" dude, but damn - graffiti is dead. Niccas is too cool to dance. DJing ain't what it used to be. Most people don't even know "knowledge" was an element. MCing is the only thing that matters...
2) ...which doesn't really mean what it used to mean, either. What happen to niccas freestyling? You ask a nicca to spit and he pull out his phone?? The fucc? Spit some bars off the top...
3) "Established" rappers not battling? Sheeit.
4) Before you even got a chance to rap for some real money, you had to be a nicca with clout. By that I mean, you had to pay dues and earn your burn. A nicca can make a rap, shoot a vid and put it on YouTube and blow up next month without having to retrospect the game.
"Progress" is all good. But just because something is "new" doesn't mean it is "progressive". "Progress" means taking something and improving it. You can't improve anything if you take most of the good stuff away from it!
I absolutely understand your point regarding progress, and your earlier comment about it too.
I think a lot of your points can be credited (blamed) to technology.
In the 90s (early 90s at least) there was no internet to blow up on. There was no other way to make a splash in the game besides paying an insane amount of dues.
Game changed, it's different today because of the internet and because any chump MC can make a corny video or mixtape and get somewhere because enough other corny fans will jump on board.
I'm not saying I've progressed simply by accepting everything today. I'm saying I progressed because I understand that record stores are essentially dead, that being an internet rapper can actually turn into a successful career and that using boom bap production and rapping about being a great rapper is no longer what makes an artist a good MC these days.
yea ok
then it's

it dont matter if it was from the "old school" or this generation. If the music is garbage then thats what it is. Just cause we got some new mainstream artist doesnt mean we have to like that shyt
