What is the benefit of overclocking your CPU?

not much, unless your cpu sucks to begin with, and you're playing cpu intensive games (bf3, planetside 2, gta4, civ5, or any game where's there's a lot going on... or crappy ports that don't scale well over multicores :pacspit: )

I did that shyt. Better benchmarking :ld: I really haven't noticed any practical difference though. But I don't use real CPU intensive shyt

not much practical benefit in 99% of cases, unless you OC it big. it does up performance though, but its usually barely noticeable.

Ok. I am thinking about overclocking my CPU just to see if I notice a difference in my games for the hell of it.

you should only notice it if before you were getting poor performance because your cpu was the bottleneck. or if you're staring at a fps counter

and you really should be testing every step of your overclock with a program like prime95, and monitoring your temps

http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/

otherwise everything might seem fine, while you're running your not too cpu-intensive stuff, but if someday you do run something that is very cpu intensive... bad things could happen (most likely just a shutdown). that prime95 program basically pushes your shyt to it's limits, so you can see right away what it can handle

all in all, it might not be something you want to get into, unless you really feel like you need it
