I might just buy AC:S to see if it artifacts or flickers :hamster:

I got to get to the bottom of this. I need 3 games to flicker, then I'll know it's my cards.

It runs great on my setup and I have an i5 4690k.
There was that one video, I think daze might have posted it, where this guy was testing out fallout 4 with different setups, and his i5 had bottlenecking in certain places. I dunno what settings he was running (maybe all ultra), but he said it was substantial. Coulda just been in certain areas though.

winb posted it

dude didn't mention if his shyt was overclocked. i7's tend to have a higher stock clock, so it could be that

he also didn't really get into his testing methodology, and if he really tested the same locations with both processors. it was just kinda "I saw dips on the i5 but not the i7". it's a big game, with a lot of possible circumstances, so who knows

hyperthreading isn't magic, and this game seems to scale well over all available cores. when I saw dips, none of the cores, or the gpu, was near 100%, so it's not really clear what was going on. I've also heard that this game benefits from higher clocked memory. personally I lowered shadow distance to medium, and it's been very smooth

You need a mobo + cpu upgrade. That RAM won't last you much longer either.

Ever since I built my own computer (which was back in 2010) my dad has been bugging me to build him one. I don't even have time to upgrade my shyt let alone built another one.

But I'll get around to it eventually. What do you all think would be a good but cheap build?

Pretty much done planning my build. I already have a GTX 980, so I left that out. This look good enough to run games at 1080P at max for awhile? My budget is a little flexible, so i'm willing to upgrade something if need be. I was debating whether I should go with the i7-6700 or the i5-6600k. I also wasn't sure if I should go with a better motherboard.

A couple of things, only the first one is a strong recommendation. The others are pretty much just asking for your opinions. I am not sure what you primarily want to use your system for, but assuming gaming because you mentioned your GPU. I built a rig with that PSU before and it is solid

1 - Don't buy Windows 10

Get at @2gunsup

2 - I notice that your board has a M.2 slot. Would you pay extra for the speed? It is a little pricey, but if you can get by with a ~250GB M.2 Drive and a cheap mechanical drive for extra storage I would recommend that. A nice M.2 drive would smoke any SATA III SSD.

3 - Try to get a single 16GB Stick. Contrary to popular belief dual sticks don't make much of a difference in applications. The only advantage in dual sticks is that you will still be able to rock with a single stick if one of them goes bad.

4 - Where is your DVD drive :comeon:
