I know this is the PC thread, but I figured the brehs in here would be able to point me in the right direction.

Looking for the file name to get CS6 for Mac. If it's on Newsgroups that's fine, I got that covered. Rep+Daps for your efforts

long time lurker. feels good to finally be amongst my coli brehs :salute:

been looking to get back into gaming after being out of it for a few years now and decided to join the master race :blessed:

Intel Core i5-4690K, Phanteks Enthoo Pro - System Build - PCPartPicker

a few notes...

  • this system will primarily be for gaming but im looking to get into programming, general IT stuff and light audio production.
  • should i go small storage capacity ssd + 2TB hdd or go ahead and cop that 500GB now and hold out for a hdd when i have the cash? i figured along with my OS & programs there's a few games that would greatly benefit being stored via solid state.
  • considering my specs and that i'll be working in a full size case but won't be overclocking + watercooling right out the gate, do i immediately need more fans than the 1 200mm x 1 140mm fans included in the enthoo pro? if so, how many?
  • thoughts on black friday/cyber monday? i don't mind waiting another 4ish months if it could save me <$100 tbh :lupe:
p firm on staying in the sub $1000 range :whoa: but outside of that, all suggestions are appreciated.

Always get the largest SSD you can get and then add the traditional HDD for storage later on unless you absolutely need the storage space right away.

Black Friday/Cyber Monday will have pretty good deals, but most of the savings will be on the SSD and GPU. Intel chips don't really get that low unless you live near a Micro Center.

wasn't anticipating the gpu getting any cheaper anyway considering that im buying b-stock from evga.

there's a micro center about 90 minutes from me but ny state tax seems to practically nullifies any real savings id get buying from them :martin:

no gpu?

that case could probably benefit from a fan up top. fans are pretty cheap. you might also want to consider a 3rd party cpu heatsink. you might not want to overclock right away, but it will still keep your cpu much cooler than the stock heatsink. and they're easiest to install when you're first putting everything together

If you're looking into using programs like Autodesk, Maya, etc, you're going to need 8gs of RAM or higher, and 6 cores or better.Graphics cards excluded since pretty sure newegg can help you out in that area. But running 3d programs and what not, I would say go get a SD drive however they're infamous for locking up. Sure you have to wait longer with the standard but hey I'd prefer to lower my chances. If you're looking to playing a lot of games, try starting with 1TB as that will let you know the barometer, upgrade to another TB later. You can program on 500-700 rigs and game on high settings if money is an issue. Remember, Ultra setting are nice, when and if you notice them to begin with.

im getting a b-stock 970 from evga.com.
its at the bottom of the parts list.

from a cost perspective, i just didn't see the point of buying an aftermarket cpu cooler when i would just wind up droppin $100 on a watercooling system soon afterwards anyway. i would've preferred to do it from the jump but theres just no room for it in my budget. any fan recs in particular though? wouldn't mind some white led lights on em for a bit of flare.

alright, if you definitely plan on watercooling in the future, don't worry about an aftermarket heatsink. probably don't wanna worry about extra fans either, cause you'll need that space for the radiator

just finished using autocad throughout high school so im positive in that its of no interest to me. the 4690k, from what i can tell, seems to be the default chip in most cookie cutter intel builds. i know its solid for gaming but realistically, how would it perform for someone who is a novice but really looking to dive into the world of programming and/or networking (e.g. setting up a vpn or virtual machine)

are ssd's being defective still a thing? thought maybe with the adoption rate of them the issues like lock ups would've been mostly resolved.

since about late last year ive noticed a lot of the AAA titles have been like 30GB a pop. just wanted to have enough headroom is all.

im not a graphics whore or anything but word on the street is that the 970 is simply the card to beat in terms of price/performance. im paying $250 for it. is that a steal or would i be better off with a cheaper gpu?

todays SSD cards are solid.
i have a Samsung 840 Evo, 250 gig SSD and i fukking love it.

my only complaint (or wish) is that it had a larger capacity.
today's games really eat up space fast.
i will be upgrading to a 1TB SSD when prices allow.
