HDD/SDD or the memory would be my guess. run checks on those

I thought that was gonna be my issue, but it turned out to be the SATA cable. check your disk usage in the task manager. the 'red flag' for me was the drive was consistently at 100% usage when it was fukking up. I guess it was trying to communicate with that drive, but failing, and just waiting for it to respond

I ran Prime95 a few days ago for 45 minutes (when we were discussing overclocking), its not my memory or cpu - ill check the SSD now since windows is the only thing on it

task manager;

cpu: 3-5%
memory: 18%
disk: 0-2%
network: 0%

one thing I find odd is that when I reinstalled yesterday, my SSD said 65 gb free of 128 gb which I found odd because it was a clean reinstall for the most part and most my games and shyt on my 3 TB HD

but the reinstall today, shows 91 GB free , which is way more accurate

cause I was looking at my storage yesterday on some :jbhmm: what could be taking up half my SSD after a reinstall :jbhmm:

tonight was last straw for windows 10... wouldnt let me install itunes, tried to reinstall windows 8 then windows 10 said fukk that we dont like that. I had to delete my SSD clean and re partition it (2 hours of work cause I had to google the issues unique to reinstalling from windows 10 to 8 which caused a million errors)

now im back on windows 8 :blessed:

itunes insalled flawlessly :blessed:

Not sure what your issues are, but Windows 10 is MUCH better than Windows 8 man.

You will eventually jump because of DX12

Is 8GB RAM acceptable in this day and age :patrice:
It is ok to start out, just get a single stick of 8GB RAM to not waste slots. A single 16GB stick will be ideal if you are on the DDR4 wave.

I think we might start seeing games recommend the inevitable 16GB soon. I thought Fallout 4 would be the one to do it, glad we are not at that point yet.

I'm gonna upgrade to win10 over the holidays.

@itsyoung!! has got me worried, and then my Vpn problem as well.

I need dx12 though :francis:

Are there some dx12 games coming out soon?

If you are making the switch primarily for the vram stacking then that is still pretty far off...games now are made with Alternate Frame Rendering, meaning that in sli one card gets a frame and the other card gets a frame and that frame can only use the resouces of the one card it is assigned to because it has no idea the other card exist...this won't change until developers move to Split Frame Rendering, meaning in sli one card renders half the frame and the other card renders half the frame and then it can truly pool the vram because both cards are aware of and rendering the exact same frame...

Off the top of my head Civ V is the only game I can think of that uses SFR...

When some games that I really want to play come out using SFR I will make the switch...

Also if you use mods for games like GTA V Fallout New Vegas Witcher III then you might want to do some research...I see a ton of people complaining about mods that used to work when they were on windows 7 and 8.1 not working on 10...

Yeah, BLOPS3 uses dx 12, same with battlefront and deus ex in the spring. I'll probably only get Deus Ex, so maybe I can hold off until then.

I don't really care about VRAM stacking. I already got 12gb of vram with my two titan xs. The only game that came close to using all of them was Shadows of Morder at 9gb of vram at 6K.

I really don't want to make the switch. I keep hearing horror stories, and I know my vpn won't work anymore. Maybe I'll just wait until the spring. I dunno

Windows 8.1 is fine. The notifications are great and everything in Windows 10 is just so refined, but probably not worth giving up the VPN IMO.

I've been coasting on 8GB for years, now suddenly everything's running slow

I click away from a chrome tab, come back and it has a white loading screen

Applications lagging and freezing when memory isn't even above 80%

Cleared some space on the HDD, no change

I'm fukking up somewhere
