Brother, wanting and needing aren’t the same thing.
Woulda been great for Zion to be a superstar but the league is thriving and has several young American stars (Anthony Edwards, Cade Cunningham, Paolo Banchero, LaMelo Ball and even Ja Morant returning).
The NBA never needed Zion to pan out.
The Pelicans may have needed it to stay in New Orleans, but the NBA has had new stars every year, including a few American stars.

Nothing else stood out. He was a good p&r big who was slightly above average as a face up high post big
shyt, I would too. Just for games played alone and he was fun as hell to watch. Just not enough scoring for me. Id take Anare over him all day every day.I would take 5 years of his career over any of the five we've seen from Zion right now on the spot I don't care about the points
I stand by what I said. The league needed Zion to be a star/superstar period. We'll just agree to disagree. No harm no foul. I enjoy Ant, Cade, Palolo, Melo, etc. But they're not moving the needle like that. I don't even think half of them are likeable. Zion was the complete package and had it all.Brother, wanting and needing aren’t the same thing.

The all "That's not gonna work for me, brother" starting five![]()
Cooper Flagg will quickly put Zion out of the public consciousness
Flagg's popularity is not even close to Zion's even with the White American tax, dude is tripping. Zion failing to pan out has set the League back by a decade and they've been clamoring for a replacement ever since. He's going to be "next up" and get that push without a doubt. We'll see what he does.

Outside of Shaq and some Bron, none of these guys moved the needle much early in their careers either.NONE OF THOSE DUDES
MOVE THE NEEDLE LIKE
SHAQ, KOBE, BRON, STEPH, KD
OR EVEN ROSE BEFORE THE ACL.
I don’t disagree with what you said, but the Association has moved from dude.Never needed him to pan out is correct, but they definitely were very invested in him living up to the hype
His rookie year they put the Pelicans on opening night, Christmas and MLK Day. Off the top of my head only rookie I could ever remember them rolling the red carpet out like that for is LeBron, even Wemby didn't get a platform of that level right out the gate.
But of course he missed all 3 games with injury, which in hindsight was foreshadowing for what was to come.
