Breh,

As a Black filmmaker certainly see your point. I'm tired of us having to make Music/film/art that is pigeonholed into some sort of accepted "authentic black experience". It pisses me off that Wes Anderson or Spike Jones can make any artsy/quirky movie about all kinds of unique people/places/situations and find an audience.

Yet the moment a black person tries to make a movie like that they get hit with a :dahell: by not only white people but also black people as well.

It seems every black movie is a hood movie, romantic comedy, or comedy.

THANK YOU!!!!

YOU GET IT!

Why are people not getting what I have to say? Why do you think this is the point of my write up? You're being ignorant too. And I'm not afraid to call you out on it cause I usually support your posts. This is unbecoming and I can tell the point is being diluted by those that choose what they want to see and not take in the sum of the whole parts.

This is why I didn't even want to get into this conversation on here cause I know for as many of you want to pose as intellectuals...you just don't get it.

This goes beyond hip-hop and r&b...and conventional black culture. This is about the arts, creative arts, painting

I salute those that got it...and dapped me up. You get it.

If this thread is going to be consistent of comments like this...than I regret even making it.

The white man isn't stopping you here. It's in your head.

I'm sorry, but I don't have anything to say that will help.

Except maybe this - you just have to please yourself, mayne.
If you're proud of what you are creating, take solace in that.
I mean - you never know who's gonna like your work, so you
shouldn't just base your worth on that.
Exactly. Some People didn't like Picasso but he became very famous.....

You missed the point of this thread then if this is your response. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT!!!!!!!

Or maybe I didn't clarify and synthesize my points dillegntly enough so they could be understood by the mass group on here. And in that case, it's my fault for not being able to express these sentiments and observations in a way that could be easily digested. So, all apologies for that on my part.

It seems like you're complaining that you can't do your art at the level you want because:

a) whites look at you funny and
b) you don't see black faces in the room.

A) If they came to hear music, likely they aren't even looking in the DJ booth and if they do and see a black guy, so what?
B)Blacks are 12% of the population, why would you expect a black majority in the first place?

Let me tell you something...go to MoMA or the Gugenheim...where are the black artists? Where are the black artists making acute installations? Where are the black abstract artists? Where are the black industrial artists? Where are the black minimalist artists? Where are the black photo realist artists?

How many black fashion designers are there out there? How many black people are supporting them? Can they be seen at a Fashion week in Paris or NYC or at Milk Studios or in London at a runway show?

How many black artists make music outside of hip-hop and R&B that are actually gaining an audience outside of that spectrum? How many NEW black artists are making EDM, abstract electronica, house, techno, IDM, experimental, etc?

How many black directors are there that are making movies outside of the atypical hood movie/relationship movie/church going crowd movie? That can actually garner the support neccessary to make more and encourage more growth and development within that spectrum...

This is what this thread is about...

hi key wes andersons pretty wack tbh. every single movie is about rich anglophiles with family issues who find some random non-white person who helps them somehow. and then the beatles play in the background.

The art world and most things affiliated with it aren't really more accepting. They just mostly think they are.

When you study art or design as a black person who is at least somewhat aware of the world, you realize quickly how Eurocentric it mostly is when you don't seek out the knowledge on your own. That's most things.

It's more than a little annoying but ya know. My best advice would be to seek out your own influences. Whomever it is you identify with most, be they black or whatever, and make the best of it. Cite these influences in your work.

Keep in the back of your mind that you want to influence other black people in the future to do what you do. Pull in other black folk to do what you do or find themselves creatively. You just have to do you, bruh and speak on the things that you feel need to be heard.
