I don't get. Also whats wrong with it being a straight forward Sci-fi film? Is there some major plot hole I missed?
Meh, your theory is no more plausible then the machine actually working.I guess only Nolan really knows
No the dishonest part would be Angier's death bed confession being a lie when it was no where in the tenor of the scene. Where by contrast, the scene was about both characters being completely honest about everything at that point. There was no motivation or anything to be gained by lying, nothing in the film suggest such either. You just need him to be lying for your flimsy as theory to hold water.
let me walk yall through that scene again when tesla leaves and angier gets to the "finished" machine preface: Angier paid a substantial sum of money for a machine to transport him(we know logically such technology didnt exist then and doesnt exist now) p: Tesla upon introducing himself to angier attempts to trick him again using the trick of conducting electricity with the lightbulb, Angier clearly impressed(electricity was relatively unknown then) 1. Tesla realizes he cant give Angier a machine that actually transports him but rather one of his usual static electricity inducing bulbs. 2. In order to trick Angier he "tests" the machine on a cat as well as a hat....seemingly with no effect(notice the build up here on the trick) 3. Angier upset and feeling as if he wasted a ton of money for nothing, yet when he goes outside upset he finds the exact same hat everywhere along with another black cat (all of these things could have been set up before hand and purchased acquired with Angier's money) 4. Angier attempts to use the machine but it cuts the scene before you see what actually happens the only time you revisit that scene is on Angier's death bed. And you are led to believe that he killed the "copy" but in reality it was still a ruse. The reality was Tesla gave Angier an idea to run with, and a machine to accomplish it. Yet he'd still have to perform his showmans ship. The lightning, just like the lightning used in bordens trick was all special effects. Playing on the audiences lack of knowledge of electricity Angier knew he was dying and even in the end defended his trick. No matter how bleak it was. A magician in those days was only as good as his best trick. And through Borden and Cutter would be his only legacy. There was only Root all along. And getting back at Root for double crossing him he has the box placed under the stage thus killing him and also incriminating Borden. The other boxes were also doubles thus preventing anyone from TRULY knowing what the trick was. the movie even in the end attempts to trick you. Movies like this are rare because of the depth being presented and simpletons who enjoy magic just want to believe in something extroadinary. But the truth is it was all a simple illusion i know yall dont want to believe that but ive had sex to this movie so much that i pretty much remember it like the back of my hand. The whole "tenor" of the movie also supports this theory. Now you COULD believe it actually did it but that is in fact the purpose of the movie. To have you thinking and wondering if it was a trick or not. When you watch Criss Angel or David Blaine you want to believe its a simple trick but your eyes deceive you just talking about it its amazing how well they captured the spirit of magicians in a movie
They explained that it's never a sure thing who's going to end up the prestige or the one in the tank But angrier didn't care because he was so obsessed with magic and illusion
I found it Read my posts....that's all my opinons right there. http://www.thecoli.com/threads/the-prestige-appreciation.114860/
i thought the whole thing about the movie was that the trick he was so obsessed about was so simple. He spent all that time trying to recreate it and it turns out he's just been using a twin
