I swear to God I thought DC, Philly, Jersey and NY alone held at least half the black population in the US... cause its nikkaz wherever you go in any of these states...

I remember makin' a thread about not believing we were only 13% of the US population, cause in some places on the east coast you couldnt find a white person for days, all nikkaz, asians and latinos...

Another coli breh told me it was cause NY had the highest density of black population than any other state, but that cant be true if what you sayin' is real.

Hov is still the ambassador of Hip Hop, no artist in the game is on his level/achieved what he achieved. As long as that's true, NY will never fall off. Nicki is the biggest chick in the game. ASAP is killin it. Bronson is holding down the underground. NY will c an underground renaissance in the same way Cali did. I c it happening already, there's artists on the come up coming w something different it just hasn't had the light shined as bright on it as other cities. There's still plenty of young cultural hubs in NY where creativity is flourishing. This is just another jealous outsider making a "fukk NY" thread. Trust me, I been to every major city worth a damn in this country n nothing comes even remotely close to NY. Went to school in Miami, got a brother who lived in San Diego/LA (dope cities!) , got fam in New Orleans, Chicago, peeped ATL , have fam in wack ass Ohio/Michigan....Anybody who thinks any of those places hold a candle to NY is lying to themselves or r jealous n want any reason to shyt on the GOAT city. Watch when some of u NY haters get out of college, where u gonna come to make something of your life? Oh yeah, NY...cuz no matter how much hipsters invade Williamsburg, that NY hustle /grind is still here.

that too will start to change i think. right now many Ghanians and Nigerians are moving to Texas and South Florida has comparable demographics and numbers to the NY Tri State as far Caribbean people go. there's already a trend of Caribbean Americans from NY and NJ moving to Carolina, Central Florida, Atlanta, or Texas.

While the OP had valid points, I think the fact that this generation is so opposed to older music has something to do with it. It's hard to build an identity when you nothing to build from. Other regions know and respect their forefathers/legends.

Also, isn't the black demographic of LA changing too? If LA can find an identity, it's possible for NY.

I never look at gentrification as a problem because how many of these relocated artists are out right now? I can only think of Waka.

Isn't the Los Angeles area having a decline of blacks over there as well? That is not stopping the movement that they have having right now.

The thing is, LA was never a blacc city. At its peak, LA was only like 16% blacc.

It's not about race. That's just dumb. The identity part is true though, but more in how the city lost its voice.

Other places have flourished because they've embraced their underground circuits. NY used to, and that's when things were at their best. NY has to get back to pushin' its underground artists and settin' that kind of standard for quality again. NY started playing more of a follower role, and that's when the losses started coming.

There's also very little unification. Cats only wanna run with their own crews now. There are a couple dudes linking up, but not enough to be effective. When everyone started wantin' to "run the city", the whole city collapsed.
