Music business is a dark business. Coli nikkas love to make it seem like this “streaming era” makes everything easier but there’s a reason they on here posting with us and not making hits

It is no different from any other business or industry breh.If you are a top exec. You are only going to give a fukk about them numbers that will serve your best interest.

Okay now we getting somewhere. So what’s stopping the rest of these artists if the opportunity is there? Are they just not business savvy enough?
yeah. "business savvy" is usually based around access to certain people and information. a lot of cats dont have access and are undereducated in that type shyt

and a good amount of it is trickery and bamboozlement :yeshrug:

Watch this @Booksnrain

this is Wendy day who got Master P and Baby of cash money control of their music

Wait one got damn minute.
So according to her at first a lot of artists weren’t even recouping money off the sales of their albums b/c it cost so much to make.

Then they started learning to demand big advances to tide them over until they could make some dough off shyt ASSOCIATED with their music (I’m guessing concert tickets and paraphanalia).

But then streaming and stuff like Napster cut into record sale profits, so record companies pushed that loss of profit to the artists. So they started 360 deals where they also got a percentage of not only record sales but all the other ways artists made money!:ohhh::ohhh::ohhh::ohhh::to:

Da hell! I’m continuing to listen...will report back!

but booksnrain this is how life is

its nobodies business to teach you business

it wasn't your schools job to teach you taxes and how to actually be financially free but yeah it is lack of knowledge , one of the reasons why record labels would go after boy bands or girl groups cause they didnt knowwww shyt and more people = $$$

imagine getting signed at 16, 17, 18 years old vs what you know now, you would get bushed too if you didnt have someone showing you how to move around

U also have to take in account that majority of black artist comes from the hood, have no idea about business

and when a white executive or a smart smooth talking nikka come up to u and say offer u 100k advance money something u never saw before and start selling u bullshyt like .. u can stay in the flyest hotels, travel the country, meet so and so,, u going to take it... especially if u don’t have anyone around u with smarts to themselves

TLC sold 15 million copies of their one album in the 90s which turn into say 150 to 200 million dollars for the label and they only got 30 k apiece and 3 jeeps
Somebody would have to die.

We need our own record label, music law schools, marketing agencies, booking agencies.

So much raw talent creating the entire soundtracks of human life—only getting paid peanuts.

And of course I’m not even sure I wanna consider the racial side to this b/c we influence the most musically...but barely getting shyt for it.:wow::mjcry:

a lot of artist today is lazy

With all these social media outlets these new artist could be doing well, but many lack the independent hustle and want the easy way out

Gotta support independent artists. People hate on the bay music scene, but at least no one can say that we don't support our own. Not being tied to labels is a big reason our style has always stayed so unorthodoxed :yeshrug:
That’s what’s up. I wonder if big labels do shyt to undermine independent artists as well.

A lot of these "multimillionaire musicians" will and have given out contracts that would make even a normal shytty record label seem like it was printed in gold ink. Souljaboy used to give 10 racks for 5 ALBUMS.
I heard Beyoncé had a record company and gave Chloe and Halle like a million dollars for 10 albums.

Don’t know if true.
