To most folks in the south, Jay just seemed elitist and not very relatable in the sense of being an everyday person, which is how we tend to like our artists down here. I think when looking at how he branded himself, he came out with an air of "you should aspire to be me, even though you'll never ascend to these heights"

I love his music but I do think his brand gave his legacy it's legs.

True, but the likes of Gucci Mane and Future and others that promote tricking and simping on a hard trap beat, made things worse. They the biggest clout demons of the social media era.

95% of the southern acts can’t fill up local arenas with all star guests. Jay in year 25 was doing that by his self. Someone from the south got to support him. Same as westscoast. Us Midwest cats are the only hater free region in hiphop lol

How To Rob. 50 making a song about every artist known to man to get some buzz. Jay Z responding “I’m about a dolla who the fukk is 50 cent” and those two having a generally frosty relationship from there on out. Even tho both have been the biggest names in NYC hip hop post Biggie smalls. A beef that could’ve easily been put to the side. Yet 50 has still taken little pop shots for reasons unknown. Hell, 50 cent and just about any New Yorker. 50 could have a whole beef series by himself against New York. But hey, “the south is just some haters. I even thought about the shyt he said about NY not giving a fukk or appreciating Nas until he got money outside of rap. Which I feel is more true for the South as well. I remember Gucci Mane randomly shytting on Nas acting like he was broke. And all them times nikkas would say. "Only nikkas in New York fukk wit Nas..". Most disrespect I've ever seen against Nas has been from South nikkas.

Nas disrespect started in the Blueprint era and continued well after Nas dropped God's Son and "I can". Uncle Murda mocked Nas for that, and then the south saw that shyt, and took the ball and ran with it.
