Swizz Beatz beats always reminded me of those little wind up monkey toys with the cymbals and bell that nod and roll around tooting and crashing everywhere.

Never the biggest fan, but he has a few classics under his belt.

Swizz shyt sounds like a child slamming a keyboard with a hammer

Hustle and the right connections go a long fukking way, clearly.:salute:
This is true, but I'd also add that being genuinely likable is a huge trait. Most of the people that have worked with Swizz seem to have good things to say. Swizz really reminds me of Alchemist in a lot of ways. They're 2 producers that come to mind when I think of guys that seem to be genuinely liked by most of the artists they've worked with. Just on some friends having a good time kicking it type stuff.

And obviously there are other producers that are loved by their peers as well, but I've heard lots of stories both public and private about artists having fun working with Swizz and enjoying their time around him even when they weren't recording a song.

I think a real underrated producer skill is being able to make artists comfortable and be a legitimately cool person to be around. Unless your beats are literally awful, having a good reputation like that goes a long ways to getting you more work, I think.

EDIT: This point is sort of tied in with hustle and right connections, I guess. Because a lot of times you need to have good social skills in order to build those connections like you talked about.

swizz is a natural salesman

he sold a lot of terrible beats and was on the hooks hyping them up. we bought into the hype. on a technical level he very well may be ass but that didn't stop him from capturing some highlights a long the way. from the first time i heard his production i could only describe it as jarring. definitely an overachiever and exemplary of what hustle can do when talent isn't present.
And to be fair to him, I do think he improved as a beatmaker and did level up his skills as the years went on. He's made some shyt I genuinely fukk with that I was surprised when I found out he did it

It seems like his status elevated when he married Alicia IMO. He’s always been mediocre

Crazy because his status ascended and hers actually DESCENDED a bit when they got together.

Swizz got more heat than mediocrity in my opinion but I also think Swizz has the “personality” of a star, and that helps him. He’s very personable, does well with things like press and interviews, and he’s a good showman.

Been on a Verzus kick lately and afterward I usually deep dive the featured artists' catalog. And man, I gotta say I'm equally impressed and unimpressed with Swizz Beatz' work :jbhmm:. I'm not trying to discredit this brother's accomplishments and definitely respect the grind. It's especially impressive he's been able to maintain this level of celebrity and relevance for damn near 30 years. But his overall catalog is just not that good and at times laughably bad (I'll list examples if necessary). And then when you start comparing him to his contemporaries? Shiiiiet. Like who even thought it was appropriate to pit him against Timbaland :childplease:? Not even in the same conversation.

shyt like "Bring 'em out", "New York Sht", "Ruff Ryders Anthem" always gonna get a head nod from me. I know the man has heat, not disputing that. It's just crazy he ascended these type of heights with such mediocre beats. If anything the finesse is inspiring lmao. Hustle and the right connections go a long fukking way, clearly.:salute:

I'm not a HUGE fan, but his later work is much much better than the shyt he did in the 90's and 00's.

DMX and then he doesnt use samples so he can bank all the dough

then network and use the dough to be in the biggest situations
he gets paid from DMX catalog alone from royalties at a higher level than people using samples

it shows the direction management and drugs can take you... he is living the life DMX should have which has always pissed me off

Nah, Swizz has bangers ALL THROUGH HIS CAREER. You can go through his production list over the last 10 years, and either find the instrumentals or imagine your favorite rapper on these beats, without Swizz adlibbing or having ANY vocal presence at all... There's loads of heat.

He really took a hit when he tried to be his own artist, and continued to show up vocally in some capacity on lots his beats, it ruins almost all of his beats post Ruff Ryders for me.

But you can't tell me he never had any, still doesn't come with occasional heat...

The dumbest part of the argument is people in here talking about Dee and Wah is why Swizz is successful. They didn't MAKE people like his beats. Swizz had success outside of Ruff Ryders even when Ruff Ryders was no longer really a thing, Swizz was still out here producing hits for T.I., Beyonce, and Jay Z. When Ruff Ryders was out here struggling to make something out of Jin in 2004, Swizz had Cassidy.

Another thread downplaying Swizz? Yall gotta stop this shyt... he’s proven himself countless times as a legit hitmaker and his hustle speaks for itself...musical talent is just a small percentage of what it takes to be lit in the music industry clearly, let him live

If the sentiment is out there ain’t nothing you or me and can do about it

Shut your dumb ass up :childplease:. I hate this “you must be a CAC, hyuck!” shyt nikkas trot out every time they disagree with something on here. That shyt needs to be banned. And not all black people grow up in ‘da hood’ so I don’t know what that has to do with anything. Plenty of people (including me) already acknowledged he has legit hits and gave him props for his success in business. Don't mean I can't be critical of his overall catalog. You damn right I think a lot of his shyt sounds like 'baby's first fruity loops' and if that means I lost my black card so be it. fukk out of here with that bullshyt.
