In his time, he was definitely considered a Black man and the world didn't care if he was half white or not. Also, if you transported him to 1920's America, his ass would have been at the back of the bus just like everyone else. One of the biggest differences today is that Biracials by and large don't have to identify as African American/Black if they don't want to. Today it's more about choosing your own identity.
