I think people often have this idea that players just make these large leaps over time when often that is not the case. What typically change is general iq/reading the floor with experience . Like how much better has luka gotta since his 2nd season? I'd say he's gotten better marginally just by reading the floor from experience but its not some transformational leap. Ant actually has a shyt ton of experience, he probably gets better on the margins like how Tatum has. Ant actually has more playoff experience then anyone on the thunder outside of maybe caruso

Shai at 23
24.5ppg 5rpg 5.9apg on 45/30/81 (20.9 PER)

Shai at 24
31.4ppg 4.8rpg 5.5apg on 51/34/91 (27.2 PER)

What's interesting is that everyone from Tatum to Morant to Trae Young were all better than Shai at 23 as far as stats and 'lytics.
He surpassed them all at 24, and has either sustained or widened the gap going on 3-years. That type of leap is special.

Ant at 23 (this year):
27.6ppg 5.7rpg 4.5apg on 44/39/83 (20.1 PER)

That's also worse than Trae, Ja, and Tatum at the same age, so starting next year for Ant (at 24) will be interesting.

From a skill standpoint he is showing that there are levels do that shyt ..and Ant not near him.

But from a public standpoint nikkas gonna move heaven and earth to blame Gobert,Randle, and Finch before they keep it a stack and say Ant is a tier below
Ant is just as skillful, son shoots way too many 3's should prioritize midrange/attacking the rim/getting to the line. SGA gets it.

Ant is just not as smart a player as SGA. I'm not sure if he can get there either. Ant's shot selection is simply terrible. Dude can get to the basket at will and chucks up an insane amount of threes instead.

I get it in the sense that you don't want to D-Wade yourself and be injured going reckless with it, but Ant is just a fool with the jump shooting sometimes. Also, having the mid range game that SGA does will always keep you a tier above those who don't. Ant needs to work on his mid range game methodically this summer. He'd be unstoppable.

agreed. and it also shows the skill gap of the era cause

Ant >>>>>>>>>>> Clyde
If we're going by them at 23 years old, Ant and Clyde are a wash

If we're going by year 5 in the NBA, Clyde was a superior player in the regular season to what Ant Man is at the moment. But Ant Man is in the conference finals while Clyde got sent home early in his 5th season.

There’s no where in any reality where Clyde is more skilled than him. 40+ years of basketball development between them. a top 15 player in 1990 is not the same as a top 15 player in 2025

Clyde couldn’t dribble without looking down.

Clyde being top 15 in 1990 is also better than whoever was the top 15 guy in 1960

it’s just how the game works

The high level creator who can point the entire team where to go while looking for their own shot just has so much more control of the game.

Ant is still young but hopefully he can learn that. Relying on teammates (directing them where to go if need be) is really steroids to open up your own opportunities. Your teammates don’t even have to be all the exceptional/individually skilled when you’re a maestro and putting them in positions to make the game easier for yourself. You don’t even have to be on some Luka shyt, just pass enough to keep an entire defense honest and off-balance. I always like to see a floor general directing the team where to go whether they got the ball or not.
