it's in a perfect place for us to elevate soul food as a reflection of our culture. Dig? We put our culture on the map

Other people trying to elevate theirs using ours ain't cool.
You talkin' 'bout food, I'm talkin' 'bout elevating culture.

Good day.

Might get my Black card revoked here but…

Seafood & Steaks >>> Soul Food.

I’d probably be eating surf and turf steak and butterfly shrimp every other day if I could. With marinated lobster tails, oysters, and scallops.
:banderas:
You probably never had a Black card if you were unaware that Soul food included seafood and that the term "Pit Master" was a term for a slave on the plantation who was an expert at barbecue which is now called grilling.

The problem with soul food isn't the food itself but who is preparing it. Soul food (really any Black food, Caribbean or African) takes top ingredients and great care. If you pull it off it's transcendent but you can also taste when they take shortcuts.

I don't think Chinese food has that same ceiling but it has a higher floor because a lot of it is for the most part modified street food (in it's origins)
This 100%.

Americanized Chinese food was specifically created for the American palate. Ain't no Lo Mein or General Tso's chicken in China. It has a mass appeal because it was designed that way over time.

Tex-Mex is the same way. You can buy authentic Mexican food in Texas, but Latinos created Tex-Mex to appeal to white people that didn't want to eat tacos de cabeza, menudo etc. They're separate cuisines that have a little overlap.

Soul food hasn't been tinkered with as much. Also gotta factor in that there's some regional variation. Traditional dishes in South Carolina might differ from Mississippi. Then you have Louisiana Creole/Cajun food which is soul food but in it's own category.

Agreed that Soul Food when done right is :whew::banderas:. Issue is when the cook leans too heavily on butter, oil, lard and salt and doesn't use enough spices. Becomes a bland and greasy mess.

Catfish, greens, hot water cornbread and baked mac & cheese FTW

Soul Food is the best food on the planet and everybody of all races and ethnicity tries to copy and compete with Soul Food.

Soul Food even has it's own movie:

Can you show me a movie called "Mexican Food," "Chinese Food," or "Italian Food."

I am British though, our food is bottom tier so one’s palette is messed up :whoa:

But honestly, mushroom rice, chicken in black bean sauce, steamed pak Choi and garlic broccoli, soy wings, Hoisin duck pancakes…hmmm

They got lots of variety too, even soups. There is just too many choices from China.

Where is your family from?
