That still doesnt change the fact that the nikka made some real bonehead moves thru out his career. He should of jus signed with Drake and carve his own lane in the underground. While hopping on Drizzy ish every now n then. Instead of trying to go big while simanteanously making his music more abstract.
agree with this. w/Drake shouldve been his choice. He can still do it on his own, it'll be uphill though

wonder if he improved his live performances...I remember people saying he sounded :scusthov: on stage

:heh: @ he has the voice....the weeknd cannot sing, thus the dark, atmosphery drug induced music he makes is the only reason he's eating. Imagine that nikka actually trying to sing a traditional r&b tune, um, no thanks

Just imagine being able to gold, performing in front 10,000-20,000 people and not having to hit up every radio station or blogs whoring yourself out :blessed:
You have a male r&b singer in your avi. If your not a chic you're opinion on this topic is null.

Listen to the second verse of Kissland

"I've seen the same four walls for 21 years to seeing the world in just 12 months.... gone for so long I might as well found god" :wow:

"I'm not worried about you, why are you worried about me?" :childplease:

The Weeknd can sing; his voice is just really high :whoa:

Lets not get reckless here. Wicked Games and The Knowing are his best vocal performances.

He doesn't have a lot of confidence in his voice tho. You can tell during his live performances. But dude can sing in a closed-setting. If you wanna hear him sing a traditional R&B song, search his shyt when he was The Noize. That shyt was ass.

No offense, but a lot of y'all have very low standards in what you consider a good singer. Weeknd is a studio vocalist to the T, and even then a lot of shyt sounds questionable, but he makes it work for his sound (like aaliyah). Between his poor vocals and weirdo persona, I don't see how people really want to see him in concert, I'd be fine with being in a location that just plays his records, no need to sit through that shyt live

I know The Weeknd is a studio singer. Didnt I just say that? :what:

But lets not act like dude is Trey Songz status. That's the standard for garbage. You really gona sit here and tell me The Weeknd is just as bad as him in the studio? :stopitslime:

And it's generally accepted The Weeknd is wack live. Only a deaf dude would argue that.

Haven't listened to trey since his third album, and he actually sounds ok live in addition to actually wanting to be on stage and engage with people. Secondly, where did trey even come into this conversation? Third, weekend has the potential to disappoint just like trey by going too far down the one lane he's established. The thing with trey, is he can wake up and start being more versatile again, weeknd on the other hand made his mark by this one sound, if and when people get bored of it, he'll be like someone else already stated...nothing more than a "remember when weeknd was poppin" conversation 5 years from now

Aint nothing wrong with the lane Weeknd is in tho :heh:. Dude is different. People know his name. Why should he change up?

This is The Weeknd trying to make normal R&B

That shyt is absolute garbage. His voice doesn't fit with that shyt. It sounds completely bytch-made, not to mention he still doesn't have confidence in his voice.

You telling me he would make it with that bullshyt? :pachaha:

We'll see, I mean it seems like he's trying to work on opening up more so hopefully he gets better. But as someone who enjoyed his mixtapes, dude still has a ways to go to show me his sound will evolve and that he'd be worth me dropping $50 to see him live.

:what: everything I've stated said dude is what he is cuz of his sound, I never said for him to be traditional, what I am saying tho is that his sound is very narrow (it's extremely dark/foggy) to me it's a "trendy" thing cuz its "different" and "new" but we all know how trends go...with so many drake/weeknd copies coming out, it's only a matter of time before people are over it, does he have the resiliency to survive that? That's the only question I'm posing (not to you necessarily, but to the dikkriders on this board who I've seen call him the future or the voice of a generation :russ: )

Edit: dudes said the same about frank ocean's lame ass as well, yet while Miguel still gets spins on the radio, I don't hear frank getting spins outside of the 10pm love hour where they're still dropping "thinking bout you" every now and then
