He’s right

Jay z used biggie (bad boy puffy) tactics to blow, they catered to the west coast sound

Biggie with the west coast synthesizer on “Big Poppa” and the player Mack raps….

Jay z did the same with “ain’t no nikka” , the beat and content was California

They abandoned the NY Rough Neck sound which was the soundtrack to NY at the time

Not in LA. Can I get a What was Jay first smash single out here. Money ain't a thang came afterwards.
I just looked it up...
Money Aint A Thang came out a few months before Can I get a....
guess it was around the same time

In Chicago Money Aint a Thang was the first time the non hiphop crowd paid any attention to Jay

Nah, I'm being sarcastic.

On this forum all we hear all the time is how nobody listened to Jay back then in the West and the South.

Now all of a sudden West Coast popularity is what made Jay what he became.

Like make it make sense.

In fairness he wasnt Jayz then. He was a random nikka whos song people fukked with from the Rush Hour soundtrack:mjlol:

it was not "Can I Get A.."...
it was "Money Aint a Thang"

Can I get A and Hard Knock Knife solidified him being tied in with pop culture
I always thought it was the song with foxy that he kinda blew up with

So

If Ja kept it then he would’ve been the King of NY ?

or was Jay-Z just propped up by NY media because he was much more active ?

Originally he only wanted to three albums

It’s interesting

I believe so. Make no mistake, Jay definitely put in work. But him writing songs for others and Biggie dying made the industry push him as that guy
at the time.

DMX and Ja rule were ahead of him at one point. The fact he was always subbing and never named names helped 2. You need heart for that tho.

Im talking from an industry perspective. Def Jam believed in X after a while but people loved X, thats why he resonated. Jay did alot of work behind the scenes and being Biggies man so naturally once he passed Jay was supposed to be that guy. I mean look how much dikkriding Hot 97 did to Jay from that era (vol 1/vol 2 and after) until now? They only did that with Big and Jay.

yea he played the game immaculate. no doubt about that.

the "reasonable doubt was a classic" campaign way down the road proved that.

he had the pull to pull strings during the ether battle 2.
