i'm amazed that the party in power being hurt by a terrorist attack on their watch only applies to the left. with the right it actually helps them.

The right is always perceived as being tougher on security threats then the left, whether that's fair or not. And the circumstances of this race was already "Corbyn is a shaky leader, May is proven and safe." Plus this sort of re confirms Brexit as well.

It's logical actually, since the Right is about tighter borders, more police, army, etc...and if an attack still hapens, they always find someone to blame (Muslims, Brussels, the unemployed, etc) and use that as "proof" that you need...tighter borders, more police, army...and round and round you go
Also a lot of people who vote for the right don't care about facts anyway.
The other problem is that some on the Left especially US/UK never really defined the bounds of their anti-war stance, it looks like a mix of pacifism and sometimes winds up being in support of any dodgy anti-imperialist movement in developing countries. The right is no tougher on this stuff they just know how to project it better, in fact, the Pat Buchanan type of right winger abhors what they call nation building it's just that they are drowned by the posturing of mainstream conservatives. It's no different to fiscal responsibility, another issue the right pretends to be strong about, they spend and borrow just as much as any liberal government but brand themselves as being more concerned about debt.
What's ironic is the British supporting Libya and Syria interventions of regime change blow back with these terrorist attacks.
It's a cycle that doesn't stop
The right & the left both have the same attitude & feckless approach to Islamic terrorism, there's the small matter of the leader of the British left having a history of sharing a platform, legitamizing and eulogizing terrorists as recently as 2013 though
