it's insane, even 20 per 100k is pretty dangerous. And at a rate 6 times as high, imagine how many people you know would get killed in your lifetime.

Yeah it basically comes down to their police force being really shytty and corrupt

That being said, a lot of Latin America isn't that dangerous, look at the murder rates for individual Mexican states for instance. A lot of them are comparable to US states, but some of their states have murder rates so high that it skews the whole country.

I know for a fact that in places like DR and Nicaragua the 'cops' (:mjlol:) literally just let people kill each other all day... Their job is just to protect people/private citizens with money and politicians that pay them off... shyt is wild to see firsthand. People living in shacks basically but with a BIG ASS FENCE around it to protect themselves.

I'm assuming in other poverty stricken countries with lower crimes rates the cops actually do their fukking jobs.

List seems kind of suspect without any Middle East countries on it. Those places probably have suspect reporting but still. No Northern Nigeria? No Libya? Like what's the criteria for a murder here. I'm assuming war zones are excluded but then certain parts of Mexico and Honduras are basically war zones minus the uniforms

Oh and my wife went to Fortaleza for business about 2 yrs ago. She was at the university so I assume it was some CAC area. She went to the open market and beach with no issues. Had no idea it was supposedly that bad :jbhmm:

Yeah, the police in many parts of Latin America are fukking useless, so people have nobody to turn to. Interestingly though, Nicaragua is actually pretty tame compared to El Salvador and Honduras.

You have countries that are way poorer than Mexico like Cambodia that have way lower murder rates, the police there don't fukk around most likely.

maybe terrorist acts aren't included for the Middle East or a bunch of murders go untracked

As far as Baltimore goes, what's even worse is the fact that the violence is heavily concentrated in certain parts. If appointed officials really wanted to do something, they could, but most of the violence occurs in zip codes that most couldn't care less about. Also, things haven't been the same in those same parts since the riots.
I wonder what there basing this off of. I've legit rarely ever felt in danger and only been robbed once years ago. I've been in the worse neighborhoods in the city at all times of night. I hope it's not that I'm just so immune to crime and violence that it doesn't phase me

It's based on homicides.

Still is top 50 unfortunately.

Doubt it. You probably just don't live in a high crime area. While some parts of the city are definitely worse than others, I'm sure there are other parts where less than 10 people die per 100,000.
