50 at his peak is a better songwriter imo. he gets discredited because his run was a lot shorter, but he also wasted a lot of high quality material with all those damn mixtapes. at his best though, 50 was giving us throwaway bridges that were better than most nikkas' hooks.
50 lost his touch when he ran out of ideas and started leaning into whatever was working on the charts + taking inspiration solely from there. but his HOF attribute imo was always melody + songwriting.
jay is the better MC. and nearly 50's equal as a songwriter. but i would give 50 a slight, slight edge.

The real question is would you rather listen to songs with hooks or just hear a rapper spit lyrics with punchlines and metaphors? I don’t know if the youth is into thinking when listening to music as all they want to something catchy to sing to. Are they even a fan or educated enough of references and other topics being mentioned in lyrics? As much Jay “dumbed down” he still gave listeners game and jewels in his music.
