The bolded is hyperbole. I went a bit far lol. Jay Umbrella level verses aint beating fifty at his best. But i do think a C level jay verse will generally be better than an A level 50 verse.
Its like comparing an NBA 6th man having a good night to MJ in his prime have an okay night. An okay night for mike may still be 25 points and a career night for the 6th man may be 20. Rough analogy, but hopefully you get my point.
What i mean by the italicized is a song like Animal Ambition....its not a good song in my opinion. But ive played and hummed that song tons of time because its catchy as hell..even the corny "grrrrh" sound. The bars aint nothing special but again its catchy because of his deliver (fukk love and affection, she just want some bread, she from a piru set where them nikkas wear red). I think the this is how we do hook is corny, but if i heard it right now Id automatically start singing it.
Best way I can explain it is you remember Macarana (or however you spell it)? I hated that song, but found myself humming it all the time. It was catchy as hell. Catchiness is a song writing skill.

Jay by a mile. 50 had one trick and once it got played out - after 4 or 5 years - he was finished. Hov actually improved as a songwriter across a long career. 50 had a run.
