My brother and his best friend went to the Marines after high school. They are now both crazy as shyt and drink all the time.

I have a lot of friends who went the Navy (and for some reason a lot of my girlfriends have dated Navy guys). They are all crazy and most of them were cheaters. However, one side of my family is Navy and they are doing very well (they made the military a career).

I have a cousin who went to the Air Force now he has a job in DC with the government but he never tells us what he actually does (it some top secret stuff). I do know he is successful, happy, and well paid. Go to the Air Force if you are going to join the military. I briefly thought about joining as I was preparing to graduate from college.

What year are you in college/how far do you have to go? Everyone goes through slumps. What's your major and/or actual interests?

3rd year in college and just changed my major from Accounting back to Computer Science so I might be staying a little longer. :mjcry:

Interests are mainly sports and video games here and there.

You've made it three years, you probably have two years left MAX so you should at least try to finish school. However, it is okay to explore your options. Just don't make any rash decision. Work through an actual plan this semester (5 year for both paths...staying in school versus quitting) and then decide after you've thought things through. If you finish the degree, you can still join the military and I think you would join as an officer (again, I thought about doing that when I was finishing college).

Of course I may be biased (I am a career student), but the real world is not all it's cracked up to be. I remember when I got my first job; me and everyone I knew who started working wished we were all back in college. I'm back in school now. Although sometimes I get tired of reading and writing papers, I wouldn't trade this academic lifestyle for anything but a lottery ticket (and I'd still probably stay in school if I won).

Make sure you before you sign you're getting that 10,000 sign bonus, these recruiters love to leave that part out.

its MOS dependent

and honestly now is just a crappy time to enlist. the military is looking to kick people out more than bring them in - and the ones that are getting in are looking at NEVER getting promoted lol

My nephew just graduated boot camp. I'm proud of how discliplined it made him. If you are at a point in your life where you have no direction, then it's a path to consider. Learn as much as you can so you can be more than a grunt when you get back to the real world.

My bro and nephew both went to the Army and it really set them straight. My brother did 11 years. Got out with a couple degrees and makes more money than me. He's at about 140k.

What kind of school do you go to? Is it a university? Because if you're at community college, then you sound like you're in a funk and you need a change.

If you're close to finishing, then grind it out and get that degree.

If you're not even close to finishing and you feel lost and like you're not going anywhere, you need to shake things up.

Go ahead and enlist, and work hard and take advantage like people here said. Hopefully you don't get assigned to infantry or something dangerous like that.

Hopefully you'll learn some discipline, gain some direction, see exotic locations, and come out with your school paid for and a new outlook on life.

Good luck.
