How Rihanna ‘ANTI’ Downloads Could Double Tidal’s Subscriber Base
"Rihanna's new record has been online for less than a day, but it is already a huge success. "ANTI," the Barbadian megastar’s eighth album, has been streamed nearly 14 million times in the 14 hours that have passed since its surprise Wednesday night release, according to Tidal. Most crucially, it's also been downloaded more than 1 million times by fans using a discount code provided by Samsung."
Tidal isn't doing very good. Free subscribers (who didn't even give their credit card number) are not the same as paying subscribers. Tidal will never be on top. There was no need for them from the beginning. No need for a product/service=failure. There was no need for apple's streaming service either, but apple is apple and people love apple b/c of the name. Spotify will stay on top.
The album release was a huge success for both Tidal and Rihanna. Let it go... unless you work for tidal or roc nation you don't know what their strategy was.
What we do know is what they did worked. Tidal significantly increased their user base and Rihanna has the number 1 album in the country (number 1 on iTunes as well) and the album is already platinum. Over 1 million downloads already reported. Tidal is winning. Clap for em. Just cause its a black owned streaming service folks making threads like this out the ass.
Tidal is not winning. Tidal can not count those new free trial subscribers who joined b/c of free ANTI b/c tidal doesn't even have their credit card number. They can only count the paying subscribers. People will leave tidal as soon as the itunes link is available and the free trial is done, which most people have done already which is why tidal was stealing from them LOL.
Go back and read. It was a success for rihanna, not tidal. Samsung paid for those albums and people went to get it for free from tidal. Rihanna is certified Platinum. Tidal didn't get not one penny from subscribers who joined for free only to listen to a free album. Jay z did get paid b/c her album was distributed through roc nation (it was released under rih's own label), but tidal didn't make much. If they are paying the artist more like they claim, that probably means they are making less for streaming that other streaming services, unless it was the labels who were taking the money from the artist and not the streaming services, which would only add another reason why tidal is useless.
Tidal needs to learn that people will use the free trial for one project/album/exclusive then drop them, so that strategy will not work. Most people already have spotify or are ok with itunes and have no reason to use tidal. They need to come up with something else in they want to continue playing.
Pop has never had a specific sound though.
Yes it has. Do you not remember when most of the popular pop music sounded like edm a few years ago? It has and it changes, but right now, there is no specific sound really. I am noticing that some of it is becoming more r&b influenced though.
