Nash
Kobe
Artest
Pau
Dwight

Was the 7th seed and before that you all told us they'd be 73-9 and one of the greatest teams ever. You can talk about Tim's teams choking but this Lakers team with Kobe as the captain of the ship on a historical level is the biggest disappointment the league has seen :nopostmoves:

$100,131,988 in salary and were fighting tooth and nail to make the playoffs.
Steve Nash missed 32 games. Wasn't the same player after he broke a bone in his leg

Artest? Really? Dude is garbage.

Gasol missed 33 games and isn't the same player he was just 3 years ago.

Dwight wasn't the same player after coming off back surgery.

Anyone using this years Lakers failures against Kobe needs to get slapped across their face and get their brain checked.

So are you gonna ignore that that lineup played a grand total of 22 games together? Let me repeat 22 out of 82 games. Are you going to act like Nash didn't break his leg and miss 20+ games, gasol missed 30+ games, Dwight missed like 8 games and is coming off back surgery and wasn't supposed to play till January. He didn't even look like Dwight till after the all star break. Not to mention the coaching change into a system
that did not fit. And they were carried to the playoffs by a 34 year old in his 17th season. Put Duncan on the Lakers in place of Kobe this year and they would not have made the playoffs. Lol he played like 30 min a game and had the luxury of sitting games out due to age. Kobe did not. Then he had to play 40+ min a night just to have a chance to win.

Stop acting like its Kobe's fault they barely made the playoffs when he was the main reason they still got there.

EDIT: NEVERMIND I see somebody done already told u everything I just typed

Out here in my damn drawls
In 09, Ginobili got hurt at the end of season and missed round 1 of the playoffs. In 2011, Duncan had injuries to his knee and both ankles and played through them quietly and Ginobili missed game 1 and played the rest of the series with a broken arm.

No shame in losing to OKC last year. They were a very good team and just better.

It's not like they got swept by a 3 seed in the 2nd round or anything.

We gon' pretend like Bynum wasn't hurt in '09 or Kobe didn't have f*cked up knees in 2011 :aicmon:

Shieet, if we had a healthy Bynum against the Celtics the 1st time, Da Gawd woulda had 6 right now

Lmfao I can't lie that was funny. But point still stands. Injuries were why Lakers barely made the playoffs. Duncan wouldn't have done any better in that situation

and this is why the term "on paper" was created. "On paper" we were supposed to be dominant but then reality set in. We were injury plagued (Pau and Steve both missed 25+ games) and struggled trying to adapt to new about 3 different systems mid-season. Your better than this. You cant use an "on paper" roster to to gauge how a team's season went, youre only as good as you play. Had we made the playoffs as a 1 seed and lost to an 8 seed with this roster THEN you could try and make that argument. But the team never meshed, was injured, and had to switch systems pretty often.

Tim Duncan>>>Kobe according to any knowledgeable basketball fans too

There's a reason why the spurs have never missed the playoffs since duncan arrived and when he was injured and was out for the 00 playoffs they lost in the 1st round one year after winning the championship.

wasnt surrounded be All-stars like duncan was. The international game exposed duncan and thats hwy he retired from it :usure:

surrounded by all stars? Manu first all star game was 05 and then his next one was 2011.

Parker first all star game was 06 and he's made it 4 times since.

D-Rob last all-star game was 2001 and he made it 3 out of the 5 years he played w/Duncan.

Kobe has played w/Eddie Jones, Shaq, Gasol, Bynum, Howard, and Van Exel.

So Duncan has been surrounded by all-stars his whole career and Kobe hasn't?

Exactly. There's no arguing with the FO, Pop is the FO.

How many coaches you know have as much control as Pop?

Having one coach for almost two decades lends to a very consistent, well communicating organization. The Lakers, while always a threat to win, have been overturned multiple times throughout Kobe's career.

Those are fair points. But you're comparing him to Duncan and there's no "buts" there. He was a rock whatever the situation.

He won with another GOAT big man and the worse backcourt to ever win a title playing totally through the front court (1999).

He won as the sole superstar and a bunch of role players (2003).

He won meshing seamlessly with two other star players and no disputes about ball-sharing arising (2005, 2007).

He deferred to Tony Parker in the finals because of matchup reasons even though he was still the best player and leading scorer.

He started off winning on grind-it-out defensive teams. And now he's back in the finals as the #2 option on a team that pushes the ball and plays up tempo pick-n-roll.

No matter what team you want to build, you just insert the GOAT and :win:
