All Star
DMX has been doing questionable tours for at least the last ten years though.
it was successful off the strength of Party Up, but that song was wack as hell IMO, that silly ass beat from Swizz. But it did it's job and was a cross over hit, white people loved that song. And then there was X was a dope album, and very successful
His first 3 albums sold 13M copies
His last 4 albums sold about 3.5M
His sales dropped almost 65% from And Then There Was X... to The Great Depression
He fell off hard
Selling 3.5M for your last 4 albums is considered a pretty huge success in today's market. I'm still a fan.
He fell off in a way where he lost a lot of his creativity that he had on his first 2...a lot of people don't realize that X wasn't only some aggressive barking rapper..he used to know how to tone his voice down when it called for it...and he used to be a GREAT and underrated storyteller...that's one of the most underrated things about him...his storytelling ability...put it like this...if he made "How's It Goin Down" right now...instead of him bein smooth like he was on it...he would be growling and screaming the verses..I think he forgot that aspect about himself...him getting rid of Dame Grease didn't help either...but I liked every X album up until Grand Champ...shyt I think Grand Champ>>>>The Great Depression..
DMX had at least 4 standout albums. with 1 or 2 of them being classics. the last standout being over 5 years after his debut. that alone is more than the standard run. not to mention all the tours, compilations, guest features, movies, etc.
plus X was around alot longer than some of you think. he was no spring chicken.
this whole DMX fell off bad stuff is illogical. people applying post-viacom logic to the '90s- early '00s.
just cuz hes not being shoved down our throats everyday like other washed-up rappers, doesnt mean that he fell off any worse than them.
The second album was a huge drop off in creativity. He fell off in a way where he lost a lot of his creativity that he had on his first 2
It was but it was still there...the feel of the album was different cause he used more Swizzy instead of Dame Grease...the one song produced by Dame on it has that vintage X feel "Dogs For Life"..The second album was a huge drop off in creativity.
Song is a straight classic. Classic club record which also takes shots at kurupt to add the the enjoyment.it was successful off the strength of Party Up, but that song was wack as hell IMO, that silly ass beat from Swizz. But it did it's job and was a cross over hit, white people loved that song.
