Its not apples to apples but the Patriots are about to be in the Super Bowl with an arrangement cut from that cloth.

I have to assume whether it's McDaniel, Slowik, one of the Kubiak's, etc that Saleh has a distinct vision and plan for who he wants overseeing Ward's development just like Vrabel did with Maye.
All too often the success of a defensive HC is dependent on their OC unless the defense is LOB tier

Im doubtful titans will have that so the biggest goal should be cam ward development which is once again dependent on the oc…i know most of the OC in the nfl are white which is unfortunate but I just simply dont see the logistically benefit of a dc head coach nowadays as qb is the most important position in sports and you would like ur qb n coach to be aligned.

Unless you are a savant, then maybe a dc head coach can work. But I think its only a handful of those

Titans do have talent on both sides of the ball. It's not a bad job. As long as he brings in someone that can work with Ward

Saleh was desperate. He deserves better than the titans

You don’t get a third opportunity. Saleh should have waited for a better job.

:why:

As the broncos -pats play for a Super Bowl birth behind two 2nd year QBs.Caleb just missed out and Jayden Daniels already got to a conference title game

This goes back to the epiphany the league had with russel Wilson and the legion of boom. If you hit on a rookie deal QB you have a 30 mill advantage on others teams and you can do a 180 fast

And Cam Ward has comparable numbers to year 1 Drake maye. More yards, less picks. The titans were a very desirable spot

I'm a little surprised Saleh accepted this job, I heard the Ravens were really interested in him as well

BUT

But the Titans job is going to give him time to build and I do not blame him so much when he was the coach of the Jets because despite the record he kept the team pretty competitive on defense and it fell off a cliff when he left.

Also the Titans have some talented players on both sides of the ball. I wonder if he takes Klay Kubiak with him.

Weak division, interesting qb. It makes sense why he'll take it. They could easily leapfrog the texans and colts if they hit on an OC

Good for Rob because he’s way better than Aaron Glenn

Tennessee Defense isn’t that bad, just for the fact the offense was 3 and out all the time without no offensive line, limited receivers and average running game

Hired the right OC, get a line and draft 2 receivers for Ward and hit free agency, you can compete in that division

Titans are hoping for Mike Vrabel 2.0.

I root for Saleh but he needs a lot of help in the game management side of things.

Hire a defensive coach with a raw second year qb, what could go wrong ?

Josh Allen
Drake Maye
Both raw guys who have done well with defensive head coaches
Don't forget Baker has had his most success with a defensive head coach

Some of y'all think too surface level

Drake Maye is in a unique spot since Josh McDaniels likely won’t get head coach consideration anytime soon because he’s been a disaster twice and burned the Colts too.

Baker has had success but also 3 different OC’s these past 3 seasons, so not much continuity. 2023 wild card win, 2024 first round exit, 2025 didn’t make the playoffs.

Josh Allen has been successful of course but they just fired his HC and the word is they want to bring back Daboll, who was the OC when Josh Allen took the next step to become elite.

Having a defensive coach isn’t inherently bad but when the offense is clicking and the QB is playing well, you always have to worry about the OC leaving for a HC job, which happened to Baker. His 2023 OC is with the Panthers and his 2024 OC is with the Jags.

Good coach. Has to get the right OC to develop Ward. He's got an advantage in that he comes from that Shanahan/McVay world and would know first hand who's good from that coaching tree.
