His fate will rest in the hands on the OC. I think Ward really does have the goods.

They know the screwed up with letting Vrabel go, so they're going with that formula again.

All too often the success of a defensive HC is dependent on their OC unless the defense is LOB tier

Im doubtful titans will have that so the biggest goal should be cam ward development which is once again dependent on the oc…i know most of the OC in the nfl are white which is unfortunate but I just simply dont see the logistically benefit of a dc head coach nowadays as qb is the most important position in sports and you would like ur qb n coach to be aligned.

Unless you are a savant, then maybe a dc head coach can work. But I think its only a handful of those
The same goes for OC head coaches though. There's nothing definitive that proves you have to be a B+/A- defensive coach to win but only a C+/B- offensive coach to win. Taking away Tomlin/Harbaugh/McDermott, 4 of the 7 other coaches that were fired were offensive coaches. It's O vs. D in both championship games and the defensive HCs are both favored. Defense been putting belt to offense's ass the whole playoffs. The best kind of coach to have is a good one, no matter what side of the ball he comes from.

Hire a defensive coach with a raw second year qb, what could go wrong ?

Y'all act like he's calling plays on offense. What if they hire an OC as HC and the defense sucks?

At least with Saleh you get the defense fixed. There's a bunch of young OC candidates he can hire. I doubt the offense will be so good that they'd get a HC job in 1-2 seasons. They could hire someone like Nathan Scheelhaase who would be a first time play caller and get 3 seasons out of him before he bails.

People saying they should've hire McDaniel but there were too many issues with him in Miami to make him HC. You had guys being late to meetings and a complete lack of discipline. The culture there wasn't good and that's not something you want for a rebuilding team.

Do you want Kingsbury? Just like McDaniel he's probably a better OC than HC.

These other guys like Kubiak, Brady, LaFleur, etc are unproven. We've seen OC's fail at HC so it's not a given any of them are the answer. Better to get a known coach.

Saleh got a raw deal with Zach as his QB and ARod who immediately tore his Achilles. He got canned after starting the season with a 2-3 record. I think he's a good hire and the only other candidate who made as much or more sense was McDermott.

Drake Maye is in a unique spot since Josh McDaniels likely won’t get head coach consideration anytime soon because he’s been a disaster twice and burned the Colts too.

Baker has had success but also 3 different OC’s these past 3 seasons, so not much continuity. 2023 wild card win, 2024 first round exit, 2025 didn’t make the playoffs.

Josh Allen has been successful of course but they just fired his HC and the word is they want to bring back Daboll, who was the OC when Josh Allen took the next step to become elite.

Having a defensive coach isn’t inherently bad but when the offense is clicking and the QB is playing well, you always have to worry about the OC leaving for a HC job, which happened to Baker. His 2023 OC is with the Panthers and his 2024 OC is with the Jags.

But how many teams actually win the SB? It's not like having an offensive coach is a guarantee for success

Lawrence with Pederson
Ward with Callahan
Trubisky with Nagy
Young with Reich
Richardson with Steichen

I think people make it too black and white, and you also miss out on good coaches by narrowing your search to only offensive guys

Mike McDonald and Mike Vrabel have done well as defensive hires, as has Demeco Ryans.

Lmao he don’t know shyt about offense.

“But but hire a great OC”

Ok then he gets picked up for a HC job in a year, then what?

Hire another good one. Like Todd Bowles has done
Or like Sean McDermott did
If your QB is good, they can survive OC changes (Cam did it, Tom, Brady, Baker, Josh, Russ)

Facts. Mans are acting like offensive coaches are automatically good. Like we didn't just see Brian Callahan not even understand offensive rules, despite growing up around the game with a Dad who was an OC , o-line coach and HC.

Excited to see what he do with Big Jefe. We get him paired with Bain or somebody & that shyt gon go crazy.

Gotta see who he brings in as OC tho before I can get fully invested. Hope he can bring McDaniel (if he doesn't get a HC gig) like the rumors say. Get him as a 1-ye rental with a successor plan in place.

Yeah. He knows McDaniel from SF. Maybe that will help.

Coen wasn't even a head coaching candidate when Bowles was hired.

We'll see how things work out. Bowles has won a playoff game.

They should’ve fired Bowles and promoted coen. He was the best HC on the staff. Same thing with Canales.

Bowles is a defensive coach whose defense gets destroyed versus QBs with a pulse and he don’t know shyt about offense.
