I think if this Skydance/Paramount merger happens, no chance CBS loses it imo. But, they may need a new partner to team up with and that’s where ESPN/ABC jumps in or maybe a streamer like Netflix or Amazon.

Splitting the companies, he's hoping that it makes the WB/HBO company attractive for a merger and someone else can buy the cable stations.

If you're asking why would someone buy the cable stations, because there's still 5 or so years left of profitability before the bottom falls out.
